It doesn't show in my control panel, even though I have caching on. It's not really even an issue since I haven't noticed its absence in a year (heh), but still. I know where it should be as I've seen it in some other boards I worked on, but it doesn't show on mine.

It should look something like:

Pageviews (06/2003): 4583
Cache hit percentage: 52.72%
Board is OPEN. Close Board

If you don't see a cache hit percentage line, then for some reason the cache counter file isn't being created properly...

Yup, that line is missing in my CP. Any ideas how to fix it?

Check your cache-/ubb_files/counter directory. There should be three files in there with the year and month... 2003-05.cgi, 2003-05-dynamic.cgi, 2003-05-cache.cgi

I'll bet that the -cache one is missing or blank. If it's missing, try creating it, with full permissions. You don't need to actually put anything in the file - the count will automagically start at zero.

I have two cache directories, but one only has 07-09 of 2002 in it, and the other has 01 and 09-12 of 2002 + all of 2003. So some of it is overlapping in both directories. But there is no trace of the -cache.cgi in either of the folders. It appears it has never been created at all... Only the no-extension and -dynamic are there for the months above. I don't know what happened to the months missing.

Any clues? And what exactly should I do? I mean, if I just create it for this month it'll be just for one month if UBB doesn't create it after it passes. Is this a bug or what?

Nuke the extra cache directory, it's not being used. There are some configuration hiccups that can cause a new cache directory to be created on demand, thus the duplicate.

It's too early to tell if this is a bug... do create it for this month and see if it actually gets updated. We'll take it from there.

Done, though nothing seems to be happening. How long does it take for it to write something?

OKay, if it's not getting updated, then the Accelerator is either unable to do so and is failing to die properly, or the Accelerator can't find the cache files to serve them up. What's the URL?

Err, I don't have the Accelerator on. I just have caching on, but the accelerator is not enabled. LOL, so is this normal? I thought the cache hit was supposed to show regardlessly.

Aha... yes, that's normal then. The Accelerator is the only thing that increases the cached hit count.

Ah, ok then. But why doesn't it show without the Accelerator enabled? I'm curious what the cache hit is now but I have no way to check...

That's because the -cache.cgi files are only updated when the UBB Accelerator is enabled.

I take it that your host's safe mode restrictions are what's preventing you from using it?

Actually no, I've run all the tests some time ago and we should be fine... I'm running it on a dedicated server so there's nothing I can't do with it anyway.

I just never had the need to use it... Short of saving some bandwidth of which I have plenty, are there really any significant gains with having it enabled?

Well, you'll get your cache hit percentage... %)

The general speed and output compression does make the board seem much snappier.

Hehe, ok then. I might try it out. Guess you can close down this topic now. Thanks.
