UBB.threads version 6.1 beta release 1 has been released to the member area.

What's new? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

The ability to back up your UBB.threads database from the admin panel (read the notes below).
The ability for users to opt out of mass emails sent by the admins.
Mass emails can now be sent in HTML or text instead of just text.
Admins can use a custom database prefix so that they can run more than one board per database. This is for new installs only. Existing installs cannot be changed.
Admins can use a custom cookie prefix. Again this is so that more than one board can be run per domain. You can change this prefix at any time but if you do change the prefix your users will all be logged out.
Admins can add more (or remove) graemlins to via the admin panel
Admins can add more (or remove) message icons via the admin panel
Attachments now use a download script rather than direct linking to the attached file. There is also a counter to show how many times an attachment has been downloaded.
Added a new time format option (HH:MM DD/MM/YYYY).

Rick has posted a more in-depth change log here

We have an updated version of the import script ( and improved ) that should be available tomorrow. The current import script will not work for 6.1

MySQL backup notes:
The user that PHP runs as must have access to the mysql and mysqldump binaries on the server or the process will fail.
Be sure to read the file size displayed after the backup. If the file size is 0 bytes the backup did not work. If the file size is far smaller than your database it may not have completed.
If you are using MySQL 4.x the database user must have LOCK TABLES permissions. This is a new permission as of MySQL 4.0. Default for this permission is 'N'.
If you are using MySQL 4.x updated from a 3.23.x version and do not have this permission in your mysql.users table you've forgotten to run the update script. read this for more.

Just a reminder that this is a BETA release. You should not upgrade to this version unless you are comfortable with the added risks associated with a BETA version.

I should really go to bed now, but it would be nice to have this installed right away so that I could get started with fixing all mods when I get the time to do something later.

Hopefully I will get 6.1 installed on my public forums before 6.2 is out. =] At the moment I'm still using the perl version...

I downloaded the new version and looked at the changed files list. Looked nice and short at first until I saw the short comment at the top about all files being changed.

The upgrade will have to wait a couple of days until I get more time. Now, I'm going to get some sleep, probably won't work though. =/

Josh, do you have yer new one running yet?? I just installed and everything runs fine... I did have to run the altertable twice but running good. Only problem I see which is kind of a big one to the users is no post icons or graemlins available.... When I go to edit them in the new script they show up and they will work if you type in the code but no selections. Anyone else installed and having this problem....BTW, permissions aren't the problem.... Thanks in advance......

Gardener,

You'll probably be unhappy to know that 6.2 will be a total update as well <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/wink.gif" /> . I'm just giving some advanced warning on this. Since we're going to userid in all of the tables, making it run with register_globals off properly and a few other things for 6.2 that will leave no file untouched.

The good news is when 6.2 is done we should have a very good foundation and shouldn't need to do these major alterations that touch every file so often.

Rick.....Yep, I thought I did and it's there.... I uploaded it again to make sure... Could it be a permission somewhere? I just went over permissions again and everything seems ok... Just checked someone elses test board and it's working over there so I guess it's something simple that I forgot maybe??

Storm, can you try running the following sql query in the admin section:

SELECT * FROM w3t_Graemlins

This should return some results of all the graemlins that should be displayed.

I keep putting off going to 6.x from 5.5.1 due to the next major update or fix just being around the corner which means more work redoing more files yet again.

Hey again Rick, yep when doing that query this is what I get.... And they also show when editing a graemlin or posting icon... Could it be a permission thing somewhere I overlooked?

That's very strange. It shouldn't be permissions as basically the graemlin selection is built by querying the database (basically returns the results that you posted). So the graemlins are definitely in the database properly.

There are only 2 things that really make this work. One is the ubbt.inc.php file. Around line 1574 is the instant_ubbcode() function and that queries the database, grabs the graemlins and stuffs them all into $graemlinlist. Then the ubbt_instant_ubbcode.tmpl prints them out. So it seems one of these isn't doing their job properly.

Since we're still beta we'll see if anyone else ends up with this problem. If not then we'll probably need a trouble ticket on this one so we can ftp in and take a peak around.

Any news on the release of that updated (and improved) import script?

Most importantly, does the updated import script address the issue of importing display names (and not login names)

Thanks,

Did you say that you ran Altertable twice?
Could that be the trouble?

I did install my beta copy as a test board.... and all seems to be working fine. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/wink.gif" />

I definitely had to run it twice as it gave all kinds of errors the first go around and appeared to do nothing. So, just for grins I rain it once more and it worked perfectly. But I wonder if that somehow could be the cause? I saw ya sign on the board a bit ago....I was still tryin' to find something in there that would cause this.. It's a mystery that just seems to be happening here... I know this will turn out to be something simple..... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="images/icons/shocked.gif" /> </font><blockquote><font size="1" face="">quote:</font><hr /><font size="" face="">Originally posted by JoshPet:

I had wondered if it was a browser issue....
So I signed onto your board and looked.

It's as iff the whole graemlin thing doesn't show up.

Here's an idea. Make sure the ubbt_instant_ubbcode.tmpl file is "readable". Sometimes a file can get set so it's not readable and it causes trouble. Might explain it not showing up at all.

Although I think your Instant markup was there wasn't it.

It really isn't a problem since I can use Merge Directory with ancestor in Emacs which should update everything by magic. Besides, changing to userid is such a needed change that is worth the hassle.

The only problem is keeping all the mods up to date, I think I should stop doing new ones since it takes so much time to update them. =P

It seems that I will be able to update my public forums from the perl version in the next couple of days. But the question remains if I should, or wait until at least 6.1 stable is released.

Has anyone dared to use 6.1 beta on public forums?

My 6.1 br1 isn't quite public yet.
But I've been converting the mods over to 6.1 with no problem.

I think when I get the mods installed I'll go live with it.... beta or not. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/wink.gif" />

Like I said... I live on the edge. LOL

Currently all the database tables are named like this:
w3t_users
w3t_posts
w3t_messages
etc.....

Now...with 6.1... instead of the "w3t_" being hardcoded in.. you can call it whatever you want....thus you could have 2 boards using the same database, sort of like this:
techsup_users
techsup_posts
techsup_messages
funboard_users
funboard_posts
funboard_messages

Hope that helps. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

How does this affect licensing, and why is it only limited to new installs what about existing boards who may wish to have multiple boards runing on the same databases?

Anonymous
Unregistered
Anonymous

Don't know how it affects licensing. You probably need a copy of threads for each board you run.

Old boards were automatically set up with w3t as the table prefix.... if you run 2 on the same database it'll get confused as the tables would have the same name.

Yes, you do. And no, this upgrade will not be able to go back and change the database prefixes on older boards for you. But you can reset them manually via phpmyadmin and edit the config.inc.php file afte ryou've updated.

Hmm, beta is running fine on my public boards so far, except as of just recently I added some new graemlins via the admin. Since then everytime someone replies I get this at the top of the page

<pre>Parse error: parse error, unexpected ';' in /home/www/michiganjeepers/forums/ubbt.inc.php(588) : eval()'d code on line 1

Parse error: parse error, unexpected ';' in /home/www/michiganjeepers/forums/ubbt.inc.php(588) : eval()'d code on line 1</pre>

Although the post still goes through and all the new graemlins work fine, its still showing that error. Any ideas?

Nevermind, after looking at line 588, I saw this:

<pre>eval("\$string = $code;");</pre>

So I take it the ; shouldn't be after $code <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

EDIT: I took out the ; and well, that made things worse.. lol. So hmm..

Ok Ive figured out the solution to this and its pretty simple. When adding new Graemlins in the admin panel DO NOT enclose the markup string word (example"cheers")
in colons
bad ie:
good ie: cheers

UBBThreads does that for you

How long d'ya reakon it'll take before 6.2 comes out? If versions after that will have less file changes... I might wait for it. Every time I have to update, I have to go back and try and remember everything about UBBT!
