Scream--
Any plans to offer spell check or grammar check for the php version sometime soon?
All--
In the back of my mind, I thought I saw a web-based spell check service somewhere. Anybody know a good one they could recommend?
The genesis of this? A user told me he was "aggravated" by the lack of the spell check.

http://www.spellchecker.net/ offers a good service and it's free and they say they work directly with several large message board programs but not W3T because support isn't built into W3T. It's very easy to add, I've added it to my W3T copy (well my 5.1.6 copy which I accidently overwrote all my hacks with the 5.2b2 copy, but it was changing like 3 lines of code to make it work not a biggie). I've posted in the past for wishlist that support for this is natively added and for Scream to tell them that W3T supports their program but that never happened.

Howdy.

How would that work? Scream just tells them that w3t wants to use their service and any WWWThreads user will be able to use it then on out?

Doug--
Thanks!
What has to be done to add it? Is it something a non techie can do, or had I better get help?
Does it slow things down much?

Thanks, Eileen!
Say, on another note, in case I still have your attention: are you planning to do a "mail this thread to a friend" for php anytime soon? Or have you already?
Thanks!

Realistically the config file would have to have some addition variables. The ability to turn it on and off and for your spellchecker.net username. The w3t user just goes to spellchecker.net and signs up for an account and then picks yes to use spellchecker.net in the config file and puts in their username and they're done. I had already done this hack but like I said I overwrote it accidently but it seems like Eileen did it too.

Mine's for Perl and runs alongside the inbuilt spellchecker, not as a replacement.

I don't think I'll bother with the php version. I'm happy with Perl.

Well I ended up going with PHP. So in the intrest of everyone else that is running the PHP version.
Does anyone have a concrete idea how to get spellchecker.net to run with 5.3php?
I've asked a couple of people to look into it, ie. tried to hire their services, but todate no one has pop'd up with how and what.

<img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" /> Heh, You know It took me a day to quit shaking my head. My first response was along the lines of "Duh, I should have thought of that weeks ago!" So I followed your good advise.
I got this in return to my question.

What kind of problems you have experienced? I think that the "Instructions for adding SpellChecker system to virtually any text box" (http://www.spellchecker.net/support/textbox.htm) are clear enough to embed spellchecker into the PHP based messaging system.

Obvoiusly there are more than enough people here wanting this feature. If not specifically spellchecker.net then a fully functional spell check feature built in. So the question isn't "Could you do ME a favor and add this feature for me" But "here's a request that has been voiced by many customers, and as an aside it enhances your product as a bonus".
I'm sure Scream is a VERY busy person, and can't hardly expect him to drop everything he's doing to work on this one feature. So I'm not saying he should. Or that someone OWES me something here.
What seems to be an issue here is that everyone assumes that you're a whiz at php, or perl and html, and mysql, and etc etc.
When I originally put my system up, I had a lot of problems as the documentation is geared to someone that knows the server side issues, as well as the rest of setting up the system. Not being a UNIX guy, or working with a server It created some obstacles that I wasn't even aware of.
I hired a guy to come in and set my system up, turned out he was too busy or something cause I ended up getting things up and going with the help of my server guys. (They've been more help than this site, the guy I hired, and everyone else I came in contact with combined.). I offered to go ahead and pay him to look into putting the spell checker into the php, he could then post the mod here and take credit for it as well. No Luck. Again too busy or something.
So in the end. I'm here asking, Is there anyone here that has the knowledge to help out? And more importantly willing to expend the effort?
