I would like to see something like phpmailer or any other smtp class built in s that I could choose, even on a Unix machine, to use SMTP or sendmail.

Our Intranet runs on a soalris machine but they ahve turned off sendmail and all mail must use our Exchange server via SMTP. RIght now it means I have to manually go through all files with the mail() code and substitue it for a SMTP class instead.

Make it a checkbox where you can choose sendmail (thus using mail() ) or SMTP (using any smtp class).

That would be nice <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" /> .

I am probably wrong, but that's set in your php.ini, isn't it?

Unfortunately not. Yes, you can set up SMTP in php.ini but that is only used when you run PHP on a Windows machine. On a Unix machine (like our Solaris server) is wants to use sendmail.

And unfortunately sendmail is turned off on our server.

I'm currently playing around with 6.1br2 to see if I can use SMTP by just changing the mailer-function instead of making changes all over all scripts. It's nicer to just make a change on one place instead of several files ..
