Would it be possible to add which category each user would like to see in his profile. On a few sites there are so many forums and many people only monitor one particular forum/category. It would be nice if they could choose in their profile exactly which categories they would like to see by default when displaying wwwthreads.pl

It just occurred to me that, although we can use the ?Cat= feature to bring up just the boards we want, because they are called by number it is immediately obvious, when we have some hidden categories, that they must exist because there are numbers missing from the sequence. It is also not easy to figure out what the number is of the Cat we want. Perhaps we should use a short (3-letter for brevity) name instead? Easier to identify and doesn't show the gaps.

One other thing, which would be a solution for the feature wish discussed in this thread:

It would be great if we would have a multi-selectable list box featuring all the categories the user can see and use. In this list box, the user could select the category/categories he wants to see and pushes a submit button. The submit button would just have to use the correct ?Cat=x,y,z URL to show the categories.

I guess, this feature wouldn't be difficult to create using JavaScript....!?

It should probably be part of the EditDisplay Profile script.

For such things, I would love to have a 4th section in "Edit Profile", perhaps called "temporary settings" (which will not be stored and are only active for the current session). Or perhaps called "Views and temporary options", then we could put the "Mark all read" feature in there as well.

Actually, I would vote for the "Disply Options" screen - that is where I think it would be intuitive to find it, and I would like it to be not temporary, but a saved option that would also affect future sessions. Also - I would LOVE if it could be not just on a category basis - but on a board by board basis (just like subscriptions, right?)

That's exactly what I think. I'm playing around with it right now along those lines...

Well, after pondering it all morning, I've come to the conclusion that it's WAY beyond my meagre grasp! This is one I'll have to hope Scream tackles.
