We run version 6.02 of UBBThreads.
And today i got into a problem that i think is probably easy to solve?

I needed a search function so i could find certain textstrings in the users profiles.
So i could ask them to modify so we can follow our country law.

Right now the only way is either to loginto mysql and do som complicated database searches or to cat the latest dump and sortout the info im searching for.

I hope that UBBThreads can be improved with such a search function, atleast for the admins, maybe even for the users if they want to locate freinds from same town etc..

Profile search is a pretty big missing feature.

You might be interested to know of an add on called Integrated Index Page by JustDave.

It's available for download at www.threadsdev.com and you can see it in action on the home page there.

A new feature just added to that, is the ability to search the users profiles.

That might give you an immediate solution with a simple add on.

If you register at threadsdev, and login, you'll find info about it in the "Forum Design Integration" forum.

Yes i am on that forum aswell.
Just have not seen it before..

The problem is that more and more of the Threads forums is getting enhanced with hacks and tricks.
And every new Official update genereate alot! of work to both get the new and bugfixes aswell as fixing the hacks and tweaks to stay inplace.
Im not shure why the developers don´t look at the enhancements and incorporate those in the code.
For example the profile search, or just a general search function in admin section that searches on all public text in the database.
Ip search is antoher wery good function since there are bad guys that can´t behave sometimes.

Well maybe just have to mail santa he might be faster to give me what i whish for <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/wink.gif" />

Some of those hacks do make it into the next versions. Little by little... the really good/stable ones make it in.

The ability to add graemlins is a hack which has recently made it to the current version. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

Rick and Infopop want the best product possible... so they won't included something that isn't ready yet for "prime time".

I think now that the move to templates has happened, and the bugs and glitches with 6.x are almost all gone... we'll see a return to feature addition. I've got no info other than my hunch to base that on. Just my 2 cents. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />
