I would like to have the ability to set word wrap when posting to a standard size, say 72 characters per line.

Would this be that difficult?

Thanks,
Lee

Not sure about word wrap perse, however you can set a width via css and have it monitor the width of the post.

Can you give me some more specific details about how to do this? i.e. which .css file you think would be best to edit? do I need to add a new class to the .css file? ect...

FYI: I am running 6.4.4

Also, if I edit the stylesheet can this be custimized on a user by user basis in UBB?

Thanks very much for your help,
Lee

Add this to the post tag in each css sheet offered.

overflow: auto;
width: 400px;

(this is untried so make backups.)

I do not see any easy way to make this user specific.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I tried what you listed to no avail. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Can css do a word wrap in a textarea or do you think I am going to have to edit the html tag directly?

Thanks again,
Lee

What exactly are you attempting to accomplish here? Why do you wish to enforce a hard-coded word wrap?

Ideally, I would like to provide users an option on how their textareas behave. Some of our users do not like the fact that when you type a post that is 4 lines (based on the size of their textarea) it gets posted as 1 long sentance.

For example....

as;dlkfjdasl;fkjsadf sdl;kjsd f;lksdjf s;dlkfj sdfl;ksjdf sdlkfjsad;flksajdf ;sdlakfjsd ;flksdjf;lksdajfsad ;lkfjsd f;lksdjf ;sdlkfjsd;lfkjsdaf;lksdjfsda;lkfjsd

versus

as;dlkfjdasl;fkjsadf sdl;kjsd f;lksdjf s;dlkfj sdfl;ksjdf sdlkfjsad;flksajdf
;sdlakfjsd ;flksdjf;lksdajfsad ;lkfjsd f;lksdjf
sdlkfjsd;lfkjsdaf;lksdjfsda;lkfjsd

I would prefer not to have a hard-coded limit set by the admin (me), but would rather have an option that can be set when you set the size of your textarea. Basically, I think this could be as simple as adding an option to have the textarea "wrap" either as off, soft/virtual, or hard/physical.

This would mean that if my textarea were 80 columns my posts would show up as 80 columns rather than run across the entire screen.

I hope this explains things a little better. Thanks again for all the help.

OKay, wait - are you trying to change how the textarea behaves, or are you trying to change how the post is displayed after it's been made / how it shows up in the topic?

I'm trying to change how the post shows up after they have submitted it.

If you really want to get this done, it will take some custom coding.

Users that try to
cram all of their
posts into little tiny
columns like this
are actually a
personal pet peeve
of mine. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />
