I have installed the demo version of UBB6 on a local win2k server to test. Installation appeared to be fine - and I even managed to change forum names, and put in 2 posts. I then put it aside for 2 days.

Upon returning to this project, I discovered I can not perform any action on the forum. I can neither post a new topic, nor reply, nor post to a new forum, nor register as a new user (although after the 'software error' message it appears that I am logged in as under a different user name however there is no record in the control-panel of other users except for the first one registered on the first day of installtion). <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

I've re-checked in the IIS that scripts and executables are allowed.

Ive checked that perl is mapped properly.

Ive checked the win2k security settings for the cgi, ubb and members folders.

For every action I try to perform I get a software error message. They all are variations of this:
Quote
Content-type: text/html
Software error:

Unable to open lasttime.file : Permission denied at e:/inetpub/wwwroot/cgi-bin/ubb_new_topic.cgi line 106.

For help, please send mail to this site's webmaster, giving this error message and the time and date of the error.
apologies if Ive overlooked the obvious, and also if I have posted to the wrong forum.

I'm still quite new to this.
thanks,
a.

It looks like permissions have changed. Ask your host or server admin if any server maintenance was done that may have affected permissions. If it is your server, check the Owner's Manual appendix for permission settings to be sure you did it correctly.
You can get the manual here.

Upload ubb6_test.cgi from the help directory of the zip distribution to your cgi directory. Run it from your browser to check permissions. Post the exact URL to your cp.cgi here so we can take a look.

Permissions must include RWXD and Modify/Change on the directories and all of the contents.

thanks for the prompt help.
I've checked the manual and gone over the permission-settings with a fine-tooth comb. everything appears to be set properly.

I've re-tested with ubb6_test.cgi and all the permissions come out OK.

Anything else I may be missing?
thanks,
a.

If you cannot post a URL to your board and you are not a license holder, try asking your questions here for assistance.

It is still most likely a permission problem. Be sure the inheritance box is checked on the permission screen for each directory.
