I'm real new to this and don't even know if I'm posting in the correct thread. I've installed (as much as I have been able to figure out) "Ultimate Bulletin Board UBB6 TRIAL" and when I try to go to the admin function in the initial page I get a pop up window with nothing on it. I get the same error when I just try to register. I think that I have something going on with perl, though the instructions that I have read say nothing about setting up perl. It is installed on a Dellhost NT OS.

Here is the url: www.youngsguns.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi and you know the control panel url. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated. I'm a full time student trying to get this figured out between classes. I'm extremely inexperience on this stuff and am getting frustrated. I'm seriously reconsidering whether or not a board is worth the trouble. Thanks in advance.

I did some more digging and tinkering. I tried uploading again and received this message: "Make sure these files exist, permissions are set properly, and paths are set correctly. [Mon Jan 14 16:40:08 2002] d:httpyoyoungsguns.comCGI-BINultimatebb.cgi: Can't locate /vars_display.cgi in @INC (@INC contains: d:httpyoyoungsguns.comCGI-BIN c:/perl/lib c:/perl/site/lib .) at d:httpyoyoungsguns.comCGI-BINultimatebb.cgi line 20."

Don't know if the binary versus ASCII had anything to do with it.

To ensure you get prompt service, I'm going to move this to the Windows NT Installation forum since you're still basically in the installation process and you're on an NT server.

I'm guessing you might have some file and/or directory permission problems.

Wow, don't fall all over yourselves helping me. Jeez! I guess this wouldn't be a good board for a novice, if I needed help in a hurry I guess I would be SOL! I thought surely to God you would get on it with a perspective client. I guess if I buy it I do it with my eyes open. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" />

I was waiting for you to respond that you've checked your permissions, are they correct?

that I was being told to check the permissions. I instructed Dellhost as to the proper configurations and the ubb test script said I had all the necessary permissions. I will call Dellhost to reconfirm that they have been set.

Finally, I only receive the error message if I change something in the settings and don't go through the cp reconfiguration process. Once I get the go ahead from the cp script (after re-configuring) I no longer receive that error message.

You must remember that I am an extreme novice who is very frustrated, and I need a patient hand right now.

Hi,

It looks as if there's no Permission problems no but when trying to click on the "set up admin" link there is now a blank page.

Can you please post the error message you get in your CGI log (also known as the error log)?

qasic

Didn't mean to come off a bit gruff... sorry <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

If you are able to access your error logs, please post the info here. If you have a link to your ubb6_test.cgi , it might help a bit to verify correct file locations and permissions. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

in the cgi-bin, and the permissions are set correctly.

Here is the url to the test6
www.youngsguns.com/cgi-bin/ubb6_test.cgi

I am talking to dell right now and everything appears to be ok. They are stumped as well

In looking at your test file, I see there are some files missing:

"check for the 'required' files in both the CGI and this directory"

Check that test and see the results you get.

all have to deal with the purchased version. Or email, which doesn't apply again for the demo version.

I'm trying like hell to get this over with.... I went ahead and did a new installation just to make sure I didn't do anything wrong. I receive the following message when I try to log on admin wise....

[Fri Feb 8 15:11:53 2002] d:httpyoyoungsguns.comCGI-BINultimatebb.cgi: d:/http/y/o/youngsguns.com/CGI-BIN/vars_misc.cgi did not return a true value at d:httpyoyoungsguns.comCGI-BINultimatebb.cgi line 21.

I'm going to call dellhost again and check my permissions.

I looked at the WS_FTP and found that the vars_misc.cgi had no bytes in it at all while the one on the HDD did. I retransfered that file. I no longer get the error, now I once again get the white screen of death. Why did it not transfer that file content's when it block transfered all the others ok?
