I have upgraded to VER 6.3
All email features seem to work but when I send a private message this is what I get:
Quote
An error has occured:

I could not connect to the SMTP server.

Please inform the board administration of this error so that they may fix the problem. Thank you!
The private message is still delivered.

Odd. Does the email actually get delivered?

And you say you can do things like use the lost password function?

Weird..

Please post your URL and version number - maybe CC will know more..

We recently solved a problem very much like this - please open up a support ticket. I suspect the solution may be the same.

Well after closer investigation I found that it is all email functions not just PM email notification. When I double checked the file and email date stamps I found that it stopped seconds after.
As I said before I have ver 6.3 classic, I upgraded from Ver 6.0
My URL is http://www.iaeifl.org/cgi-bin/ubb/Ultimatebb.cgi

Also I noticed that content-type: text/html is appearing when I try the email a friend feature.

I did download new upgrade files today. When I upgraded to 6.3 I downloaded the files a couple days after it was out of BETA.

Should I try upgrading again or open a support ticket as Charles suggested.

Neither will do any good - if the UBB says it can't talk to the SMTP server, then it plain can't talk to the SMTP server. Please contact the SMTP server admin.

I contacted my host.
It is a windows 2000 box and he gave me a different smtp server to try and no luck.
As a test I ran the SMTP.pm file through my browser and I was prompted to download the file.
Should not this file be mapped to Active Perl?

.pm - doesn't have to be and rarely would be.

I have contacted my my host again and they are currenly still working on my problem with the connection to the smtp server. In fact they have asked to look at the code which I gave them SMTP.pm. I know it is more complicated than that but is there any UBB specific documentation I can provide them to expidite a resolution?

My host provider tried a new smtp server with no luck. They found nothing wrong with any settings whatsoever.
They moved my site to a new server and the smtp problem disappeared.
All is working well now.
(after re-setting all my paths, dsn's and smtp server names)

My host is appliedi.net.
For over two years I did not have any problems with UBB. Somewhere along the line something must have been upgraded or corrupted. Before they moved me I even installed a test board using ver 5.47 then ver6.1 then ver 6.3. Still no smtp connection using the original smtp server and the new one. I also tried the ubb6_test.cgi script to see if permissions changed giving a hint that something was different.
It has been a few days now and everything has been working fine as far as I can tell.
By the way I did have a open support ticket at the time of the problem but I closed it when the problem went away. So it you wanted to take a peek the login has changed now.

I would just wish there was some utility to diagnose this type of problem that could enhance something like the ubb6_test.cgi script.

The ubb6_test script is actually being rewritten to diagnose more problems...

... however, this is not among them. The error is very self-explanitory - the connection could not be made. This means that either the SMTP server is down, the SMTP server is unreachable from the web server, or Perl is being prohibited from creating a connection.
