I just set up a clean install of 6.7.3 on a new server that was just set up in August. We have run 6.5 in our production environment for the past couple of years, and I just wanted to set up the new software first before I migrated it.

In 6.5, we had that software connected to a database for registration. It never sent a welcome email (but sent all other emails), but because of the customization, there was always a question about whether it was something we did that resulted in no welcome email being sent.

Now, in 6.7.3, I am still seeing no welcome email, but the other emails are being sent. This version hasn't had any code hacked in it.

MY understanding is that if I enable email functions, the welcome email should be sent (just as the registration emails get sent to our moderator...) Is there something else that I am missing?

Second, I have set up a customized style. I see that customized style everywhere EXCEPT on a Forum page, when reviewing a particular post in a forum, and when adding a new topic (presumably, when editing a new topic too, but I admit, I haven't looked at that.) On those pages, I am seeing the default style. On the style association page in the CP, everything has the new style I set up indicated. Again, am I missing something else?

I want to be sure everything works as expected before I modify the board to connect to our database.

Thanks,
Marianne

Possibly. There are two email addresses that can be used - the board-wide email address, and the registration-only email address. Both are in the email area. Make sure both contain valid addresses. I'll wager that the registration one is invalid, and mails aren't getting sent from the server.

As for the style issue... hm, that's odd. Check the style association settings to make sure that each forum is using its assigned template for transition pages as well - there'll be checkbox for that option near the style set dropdown menu...

Thanks Charles.

I found the forum style settings with your note. I hadn't seen it before. It's one of the few things not in a tab.

Regarding email, both the board email and registration email are set to the same address, and it is a valid address.

Charles,

Any other ideas about where to look for why the registration email to the new registree ONLY email doesn't get sent??

Nothing immediately comes to mind... Do you have admin notification of new members enabled? If so, is it working?

If not, then something might be going wrong before mails are even sent out....

The administrator does receive notification of the new member. That part works fine, so I know that emails can be sent.

However, the new member does not receive any notification/welcome.

I did figure out that I could PM them with this new software with a welcome PM, but we'd rather email this set of information.

Also, I checked with our ISP. They checked the email logs and can confirm that there was no welcome email sent at the same time as the admin notification. They can see the admin notification. So, the conclusion seems to be that the board is not sending it rather versus it disappearing somewhere after it was sent.

Any ideas? Or do I need to log this as a problem?

I don't think welcome emails get sent unless you are verifying email addresses.

I send welcome pm's and turn on email notification of new pm's - works well <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

HI Allen,

I sure thought that there was an email that got sent.

What is this:

Email: reg_html_normal

?

I *thought* this was an email that would go when someone registered and the process was not moderated?

Maybe I'm mistaken, I don't think emails get sent to new registrants unless you are verifying email addresses or sending pm notifications.
