The current changelog is getting me really turned on. :hearts: I'm not going that far Harold lol..... We'll be posting progress on 7.2 in this thread. We'll be moving a bit slow for now since we're still working on a couple of the importers, but as time allows we'll be adding new features to keep things moving along. That was posted at 12:21am GMT First New Features posted at 12:22am GMT He he Ricks not hanging around, and i was worried for a bit. 7.2 Feature Added a new option in the control panel to force all users to accept the board rules on their next visit. I hope you put a link to the forum rules in there too. Currently we can only get to them via registering Like it just like classic. I used to add and remove Full Stops to make people look again lol... Who's Online screen to show the actual topic a user is looking at. I hope the forum / Topic is listed or it wont make sense 7.2 Feature: Added a button on the Quick Reply screen to switch over to the Full Reply screen Excellent, as we forget how thick members can be and how technical our forums are to a NEW INTERNET users. 4-23-2007: 7.2 Feature: Added the ability to add a description to files that are being attached to a post. Ahhh i like the improvement, but placement of the images in an upload into the post content IMO is the only way that this feature will gain legs, as my members continue to use 3rd party uploaders, and asked why not our own they say because i cant place my pictures in context with the post contents. The rest are great too Keep up the good work, but i'm not getting Horny about it lol Sorry for all the i hopes but, i dont have the answers.

Rick 7.2 - > Gallery ? Any news on how and where it will fit in? As working on the new gallery in the change log, isnt saying much about it. As i know nothing about it, is there any head lines about it you can share with us? Not asking for the full A-Z but a summary of where you hope to be going with it. Thanks

We'll be starting out pretty basic. Ability to flag a forum as a gallery forum, where instead of posting you'll attach pictures. Thumbnails, medium sized and full size pictures will be created from the attachment.
Main forum page instead of listing posts will lists thumbnails of the photos. Clicking on the thumbnail will take you to the medium sized picture and the ability to make a comment about it.
Probably the ability for the user to flag a picture as part of their personal gallery as well that could be viewed from their profile.
Nothing extremely fancy at this point, but it'll be a start.

I'd like to make the request now to have the ability to set "Allow Comments?" to no, with it defaulting to yes... Same for allowing voting on images

I like the options that gizmo's mentioned The Flag a forum as a Gallery is a great idea, the reason i say this is my own personal view and its this. I remember being pointed to another piece of software, and i was horrified to how bad it looked, and to be honest it turned me away from the product because there was no on off option. Images sizes is one of the important things i would like to mention, being able to control the sizes by height or width. Flagging it as there personal gallery I like the idea of that (Easier to spot a perv lol) Good, luck with the development, and cant wait to see it in action.

I don't think I've read it anywhere so i will have to ask, but is 7.2 road map, The Gallery and Blog or Just the Gallery?
You can blame those questions on gizmo letting little bits slip here and there.
Either way its great to be moving forward.
Mark

Please hopefully its designed from the ground up with a lot of admin control. I for one do not have a use for a gallery so I need to turn it off like it never existed. I would love this for all options that are fluffy. (Emoticon type displays) What I really need is some sort of avatar control. - Upload permission for custom avatar after "X" time period - Moderator avatar approval before seen by visitors - Remove avatar upload capability on a per user/per group basis I could go hack it in but I want to keep stock -- Just need Rick to work real hard and put in all my wishes Upgrading my forum is hard enough with just the templates let alone hacking code.

Rick has said that most options wil be able to be turned off, in either case, for some reason, if it's not built with a way to turn it off, i'm sure a mod to do so would be availabe at UBBDev quickly . Just need Rick to work real hard and put in all my wishes The line starts behind my feature request thread :-x (jk)

Was the payment structure being built into 7.2 ? So that would be Gallery Blog Payment options? Just curious as they have been mentioned in the past.

From what I've heard, Rick was planning for at least a basic implementation of all three that you have listed.

Especially the gallery options hehe... I'm still rooting for NetBPM support (I've found that most of the hosts that don't have IM generally have NetBPM)

NetBPM is yet-another photo utility suite, like GD or ImageMagick

In gallery 2.2 if you are using auto watermark you need to set NetBPM as priority over ImageMagic otherwise ImageMagick chokes and your photos do not get auto watermarked

Now it seems Ricks enjoying himself Change logs really intresting now, 5-10-2007: 7.2 Feature Change: Removed the page value from all links to showflat/showthreaded. This is now stored in a session variable. Will old internal links still work ?

Yes, the page number really was never necessary and not always accurate since the page it was on depended on how many posts a user was showing per page. Everything will continue to work, just now it'll be better

Glad to see a nice changelog since my last visit Yes, the page number really was never necessary and not always accurate since the page it was on depended on how many posts a user was showing per page. Everything will continue to work, just now it'll be better Concerning this, what about search engine links? If Google has already stored this link (and 1000s of others), won't the new linking structure break those links? And to clarify this: 4-19-2007: 7.2 Feature: Added information to the Who's Online screen to show the actual topic a user is looking at. It will also name the forum the topic is in, too, right? I'm looking forward to 7.2, despite any real need for an image gallery (personally)...
GangsterBB.NET (Ver. 7.6.1.1) PHP Version 5.6.40 / MySQL 5.7.23-23 (was 5.6.41-84.1) / Apache 2.4.54 2007 Content Rulez Contest - Hon Mention UBB.classic 6.7.2 - RIP

I'm looking forward to 7.2, despite any real need for an image gallery (personally)... The image gallery looks cool, but we cannot afford it. Just on text with a bit of graphics we eat away about 80gb's of traffic a month. If we would host the images also that people put in their posts we would be well over a few terrabyte a month. But there's more stuff in UBB we don't use, so no problemo and looking forward to 7.2 too.

Wonder what causes that much traffic ? I wouldn't think your site is THAT busy from the numbers shown for posts etc.. Maybe a LOT of Lookie-Loos that view and never post.

A lot of sites unknowingly host images that external sites use; you should catalog what's being accessed with a decent statistics logger (such as awstats) and see if this may be the case; it was for us and we trimmed off like 30gb/traffic per month by locking things down

Wonder what causes that much traffic ? I wouldn't think your site is THAT busy from the numbers shown for posts etc.. Maybe a LOT of Lookie-Loos that view and never post. We do have lots of them. And we consider a reader just as much a part of the forum as a poster. We only hide the offtopic parts of our forum for viewers for privacy reasons. A lot of sites unknowingly host images that external sites use; you should catalog what's being accessed with a decent statistics logger (such as awstats) and see if this may be the case; it was for us and we trimmed off like 30gb/traffic per month by locking things down We have a deeplink protection for our images. But all in all, we don't host that much images. For april, we got 70 gb's, of which 1,26 GB was from search engines. 72.7% of our traffic comes from PHP files, with ubbthreads.php being our number 1 at a far distance. Our forum has lots and lots of pictures, but it's all hosted by the users themselve. I don't even want to guess the amount of datatraffic we cause on the internet as a total. And the amount of money that's going to the themeparks because we started a community about it almost 7 years back

Concerning this, what about search engine links? If Google has already stored this link (and 1000s of others), won't the new linking structure break those links? No, none of those links will break. You can actually try it yourself, just remove the page portion of the url. It will still go to the exact same post even now. The page portion is strictly used to track what postlist page you are currently on, nothing more. So instead of tracking it in the url, we just moved it to a session variable.

I just noticed the changelog for 7.2 with regards to PMs and special characters. Yipee!!! Does that mean that my site (which works on the Central European ISO-8859-2 encoding) will be able to upgrade directly from 7.0.2 to 7.2 and the PM feature will be available to all?

Yes, the javascript that was causing the problems is all gone. Now it goes through regular post routines, so no more problems.
