Haven't had any issues yet with installing public betas from here. Any small bugs found are not a problem to fix and helps get the final out quicker smile

Most public betas aren't half bad; way less bugs than what we get wink

Technical "could" be so if not comfortable with beta yes better to wait.

Though I find on my site that there is too much whining about this or that and get tired of those type of posts so I'll wait for release on the main site but I'm up for playing with beta on another site I have (or for that matter on a VMWare at home)

True, I install all versions on my second server first. Make sure no bugs and hack the files to add mods before going live.

It *probably* won't be in the members area until after the holiday. I normally like to be around when it's released, and I'll probably be gone on the 4th. I'm finishing up a few changes and fixes and then we'll see exactly where we're at.

Sorry if this is the wrong section for this but I downloaded this newest BETA and willing to update the V7.1 and test

Few questions so I do not screw up, the notes say

Upload all files and directories from the unzipped UBB.threadsâ„¢ directory to the UBB.threadsâ„¢ installation directory, except for the includes, styles, and cache_builders/custom directories. You will want to upload all of the .php files within the cache_builders directory, just make sure not to upload the custom directory or files within it.

Verify that permissions on any newly uploaded files are correct for your server platform. Please review the full installation instructions for a reminder on necessary permissions.

Bring up the "install/upgrade.php" script with your web browser. If the normal URL to your UBB.threadsâ„¢ installation is:
http://www.example.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php
then you will find install/upgrade.php at:
http://www.example.com/ubbthreads/install/upgrade.php

----------------

So On my P/C after unzipping, I can delete the includes and stles directories and in the cache_builders delete custom directories.
Question is am I copying the rest to a temp directory and not to the functional ubbthreads directory ?

If so and I then use the upgrade.php in the ubbthreads, how does it know to find files in the temp directory ?

Or I am copying the folders/files directly to ubbthreads directory ?

Thanks

if you are doing a NEW install you need all files; if you're doing an UPGRADE you need to not upload those specified directories.

Threads does nothing with a temp directory during the upgrade process; you will be over-writing your existing threads installation's files.

The new "temp" directory is for the gallery, and will be a fairly empty and lonely place until you setup a gallery forum.

Possible bug on Post Island.

Where: Post Island (any)
Script: /cache_builders/post_island.php
Summary: wordwrap may corrupt 2-byte characters
Description:
Line 100 of post_island.php, which looks like newly added with 7.2, may sometimes corrupt character when you're using a mixture of single-byte and 2-byte characters such as Japanese or Chinese dut to PHP's wordwrap function.

Code
$words[$i] = wordwrap( $words[$i], 20, "<br />", 1);
Solution:
Simply commenting out this line helps and fixes this issue.

Suggestion:
This should be specified on Control Panel (is it? couldn't find anyway); use wordwrap or not, and, the number of characters you want to wrap at.

Just finished upgrading our board to 7.2b4. Came across a few file permission issues (i.e., in languages/english userposts.php was 644 and needed to be writable, so changed it to 777). The Main Install Documentation needs to be updated to specifically list the new directories, and the permissions they need (I may need to adjust some of mine now for better security). Overall the install was smooth and without issue.

Now, time to play!

Thanks, Rick! laugh

I'm working on beta 5 right now. A few small bugs, and Mark's long ticket, but overall things have gone pretty smooth wink I did change it so when a new forum is made all groups will have No Access by default, as it's safer to forget to add access to a group than to forget to remove it.

Anyways, I don't anticipate this to be in beta too much longer if things keep going the way they are.

Question: All was working smoothly since I upgraded to 7.1.2b4 on Saturday. Now when I go to edit a user I get:

SELECT t1.FORUM_TITLE,t1.CATEGORY_ID,t1.FORUM_SORT_ORDER,t2.CATEGORY_TITLE,t1.FORUM_ID FROM ubbt_FORUMS AS t1, ubbt_CATEGORIES AS t2 WHERE t1.FORUM_IS_ACTIVE='1' AND t1.CATEGORY_ID = t2.CATEGORY_ID ORDER BY t2.CATEGORY_SORT_ORDER,t1.FORUM_SORT_ORDER

Can't create/write to file '/tmp/root-tmp.4455ab8/files/#sql_4b7c_0.MYI' (Errcode: 13)

/tmp (the /tmp directory under the main forum directory) is already 777.

Ideas? Could be another of those occasional SQL issues that my host needs to fix.

Thanks!

Thanks! Just also saw a similar message on my website (done with Joomla!). That generally means the webhost did something and didn't make sure everything was working.

Was about to say that your tmp directory would be under your webspace vs the server root lol

sounds like they deleted all data in /tmp, including some temp files that are required to operate the system wink

If you're just checking to see what's been changed, you'll at least need to upload the libs/ubbthreads.inc.php file as well, as that holds the current version #.
