I would appreciate if someone could please help me. I recently (yesterday) had the message board installed. I have a directory set up to store images but I can't figure out how to do the following. I start a new post, I know how to upload the image so it is supposed to be in the post, but when i try to insert a link to the image nothing shows up. it shows up in the preview but when I actually submit the topic it appears blank.

Is the file the image stored on safe to use in regards to inserting an image into the post or does the link change or break after submitting it? hope this makes sense.

The post is here (board is no where near finished or designed yet)

thanks in advance.

You need to to hotlink to the .jpg of the image instead of the download link.

thanks for your help. I still cant get it.

where would i find the link for the image?

i used the following link

http://www.dexterity.net/forum/files/1-1166060364-66236-4b10bf.jpg

and i hit the icon that states input the url for the image you want to display. so thats incorrect? when I try to do it as an html link it still doesnt appear.

or am I misunderstanding?

thanks for your help.

Use the image tags. I think you were using the link tags.

Try checking in your control panel.

Feature Settings - General - Allow [img] tag in posts?

The box needs to be checked.

Dexterity, to get the image URL, click the download link in your post on your board. Then right click the page, not the image, and get the image URL in the properties.

Harold, I'm so proud of you; you covered everything that I'd have stated, and you've not played with the product long :nods:

hi thanks, I get the following

http://www.dexterity.net/forum/files/1-1166060364-66236-4b10bf.jpg

then I see this under alternate text.

The image “http://www.dexterity.net/forum/files/1-1166060364-66236-4b10bf.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

Wonder what errors it is referring to because I posted the image here fine.

thanks again. what a headache huh lol.

and my control panel appears to be set up correctly.

dexterity =

confused

The last idea that I can come up with is to check the Full URL to the attachments directory. Make sure you are using or not using the www the same way as in the Full URL to the main directory.

Did you check the URLs in the control panel?

I signed up and duplicated your post. That was really weird how the image would show up in the preview and not in the final post.

What would be causing the image URL to change to this when making a post?

http://www.%3ca%20href='http//www.dexterity.net'%3Edexterity.net%3C/a%3E/forum/files/1-1166060364-66236-4b10bf.jpg

I'm gonna guess you have dexterity.net in your Active Text. The way this works currently will end up breaking the image as it turns dexterity.net into a hyperlink and messes up the img src.

Try taking "dexterity.net" out of Control Panel » Feature Settings » Active Text

Although you do link to "http://www.dexterity.net/NEW.html" in your signature there and it displays fine.

Maybe we need a check on anyname entered into active text does not equal the forum name?

it'd have to be one hell of a check...

Think of it:
help -> http://www.mydomain.com/help.html

By adding a such "check" it'd break "any activetext with the domain in it" which would nerf a valid activetext (unless you meant the source name as the activetext, which i can go for either way)

No what I meant was - the software already knows the domain of the site - all it needs is a check to see if that domain is entered into the active text, by checking each entry against it.

Wouldn't have thought that should be too hard.

Unless I missed your point smile

Wow. I'm glad we finally figured this one out. I don't fool with the active text on my site. My users consider it to be annoying. smile
