Hi,
I must be doing something wrong....
I am trying to use the portal boxes elsewhere on my site - i.e. in affect external use - but actually within my own footer.
These are not working.
First of all it says 'external use' - but the code produced seems to have all local links - I am not sure how this could be used on another site like this?
Secondly when I put the code into the footer.tpl it fails miserably - so something is not correct. How can I include the code in footer.tpl? I have tried tweaking the code, but without joy...
Any clues here?
Thanks.

This should probably be clarified. External basically means external from the forums but still on the same domain. There isn't an option to use these outside of the domain at this time.

sorry - thought external meant external Ok - whilst that is very disappointing - I can live with that for a while. However any clues as to why they will not work in footer.tpl - or is there a way to get them to work on the main forum pages. Any clues?

Are you putting them in the footer.tpl file or in the Default Footer section of the HTML Includes? I use them on my personal site in the default footer section.

I am trying - but so far without luck...
I think the word external needs altering, as I incorrectly beleived it to mean external to the site and not the portal.
I am trying to put 5 of them into a table within footer.tpl - but it is not having it.
Has anyone got any suggestions as to how to make it work. I have tried altering the code using { - but without joy.

essentially it was the exported code obtained via the external use link, and then enclosing this within a table. It must go into a cell within a table, as I was going to have 4 or 5 across the page. I have tried modifying the code without joy. For example I wanted the calendar at the foot - so exported...
<?php
if (!defined('UBB_MAIN_PROGRAM')) define('UBB_MAIN_PROGRAM',1);
$style_side="";$tbopen="";$tbclose="";
echo "<table width=\"100%\">";
include("/path/forums/languages/uk-english/generic.php");
include("/path/forums/cache/public_calendar.php");
echo "</table>";
?>

None really - I just wanted to merge them in tighter. If need be, I will use that - was just curious as to how to get it working in the footer.tpl - if something then fails, I like to know why LOL

The .tpl files will not handle php code directly that way. They are meant to handle HTML and smarty tags. So, instead of wrapping the php code with the standard opening and closing php tags you need to wrap them in the smarty php tags, like this:
{php}
$foo = $bar;
{/php}

lol i figured as much on that Rick ... if he can't figure out the coding tonight I'll make him something to use; should be as simple as replacing the phpopen/close though.

Ian, try:
{php}
$style_side="";$tbopen="";$tbclose="";
echo "<table width=\"100%\">";
include("/path/forums/languages/uk-english/generic.php");
include("/path/forums/cache/public_calendar.php");
echo "</table>";
{/php}

Thanks guys - have used the code - but none of the boxes are appearing - nor are the language files - it appears to be just raw data. (I have tried the calendar, who's online and Newest Members) So I have put it into the generic footer (not my prefered option, as I might use forum footer, and wish to avoid having to remember the data) Now I am seeing the language strings, but still no surrounding boxes - it looks like the styles are not being carried over - or the boxes are just not included. Any clues on the code to include the boxes if that is the case, as they look a tad odd without boxes in the forum style around them. http://www.fansfocus.comThe info can be seen towards the foot of the page.

Can't you simply put html around the code to show the boxes ?

sure - but I can't figure out how to make the box identical to the one in the sidebar - especially as it needs to change depending upon the stylesheet used.

This is what I'm using for my default footer html on my personal site.
<?php
if (!defined('UBB_MAIN_PROGRAM')) define('UBB_MAIN_PROGRAM',1);
$style_side="";$tbopen="";$tbclose="";
$wrapper_id = $style_array['wrappers'];
$tbopen = $wrappers[$wrapper_id]['open'];
$tbclose = $wrappers[$wrapper_id]['close'];
echo <<<EOF
<table border="0" width="800" align="center">
<tr>
<td width="33%" valign="top">
EOF;
include("/***/***/***/languages/english/generic.php");
include("/***/***/***/cache/online_now.php");
echo <<<EOF
</td>
<td width="33%" valign="top">
EOF;
include("/***/***/***/cache/forum_stats.php");
echo <<<EOF
</td>
<td width="33%" valign="top">
EOF;
include("/***/***/***/cache/new_users.php");
echo <<<EOF
</td>
</tr>
</table>
EOF;
?>

The exported code on forum stats on mine is <?php
if (!defined('UBB_MAIN_PROGRAM')) define('UBB_MAIN_PROGRAM',1);
$style_side="";$tbopen="";$tbclose="";
echo "<table width=\"100%\">";
include("/xxx/forums/languages/uk-english/generic.php");
include("/xxx/forums/cache/forum_stats.php");
echo "</table>";
?> which is somewhat different to the code you have posted. $wrapper_id = $style_array['wrappers'];
$tbopen = $wrappers[$wrapper_id]['open'];
$tbclose = $wrappers[$wrapper_id]['close']; for example is missing along with other code. So not sure what I should be using.

Well, it's a bit of a hack to make it work that way Ian. Normally we assume if you're going to use a portal box on an external page, it's outside of the forums and probably doesn't quite look the same as the forums. And if someone is using a different style on the forums, the wrappers might not go with the website at all.
So, what I posted is what I'm using in the footer section that you can see on my personal website.

Just returning to this.... Looks like something was fixed in 7.1b5 Many thanks - all appearing nice now - okay still in the generic footer, rather than footer.tpl, but as it is working in one I will have a fiddle further up now
