A few bugs still remain, but we'll be getting these fixed up shortly and this should be our final beta release. Does that mean 7.1.6b ? Would you like to share the bugs that remain / or your aware of? Just so i dont do a massive post to find your reply with, Yeh I know lol

beta 5 should be the last beta release. The next one should be our final. As for any lingering bugs, those are the ones that are still in the bugs forum and aren't marked as fixed

Hey,
While making an account for this site I noticed the image verification and was wondering if that was already part of ubbt current features?
Also, is there any new information on 7.1 release?
Thanks, Tim

Hi, Welcome to threads It is part of 7.1 - however you will need either ImageMagick or GD2 installed on your server to generate the random images. If you have this and 7.1 (currently at Beta 5 in members area), then yes

Thanks, Tim Sorry Tim - missed that part. The release is currently at beta 5 stage - Rick has indicated that this should be the final beta - so I would expect to see 7.1 final fairly soon. Rick might be able to give you a better timescale - but the bugs seem to have dried up, and this version is running on some large sites, without any real issues, so it is all looking good

Well then, I'll have to check with my hosting company and see if either of those two programs are installed. I would think neither are since they are not really related to website hosting. But we'll see.
Thanks for the information! Tim

Actually there is a better chance of ImageMagick AND GD2 being installed than not; they are actually fairly stock features with webservers.

Well, just left my hosting companies support chat system and the tech tells me I can enable the GD2 inside the PhP control panel so well see what I can do.
Is there any information about this system in the support/help docs on this site?

I would have thought you should be okay.
The scripts are used by a large number of hosted scripts that involve images.
GD will need to be version 2 rather than version 1, and ImageMagick will need to be a recent version.
It is possible, I beleive, to install ImageMagick without access to the root as long as you have SSH - but check first to see if your hosts will install either or both - and decent company should not object.

Um, not sure which version GD is. I'm thinking it is version one. It is just a tic mark to enable it in the PHP configuration script. Back to the support chat lol.

Well Max of the support team! tells me it's GD2. So it looks like I'm in business. I'll wait for the release of 7.1 to work on it. My 7.02 is running just fine and would rather just upgrade once. There are so many new features in threads over classic.

IM will allow you to simply download a precompiled binary from their site and upload it to your webspace; so it's generally quite simple to install.
Required versions are GD2 and ImageMagick6; basically if it works for one or both you have proper versions, else, they're outdated; best way to check is trial and error though

So - Do you think 7.1 Final will be available by next week or what? Or will we have to wait thru an RC1 before going gold? I'm getting anxious... you know, i really need to start checking if theres more than one new page before posting... Why? Your post count wouldn't go up as fast...

I'm not sure if he's going to RC1 or not, at first he was making referances to it, but then he's been discussing other things as well; guess we'll have to wait and see

I don't think we'll need to do an rc1 for this. We did release candidates for 7.0 but only because that was the initial release of the rewrite. We'll probably release the final to the private guys for a day or two to make sure I didn't mess up the package at all, and then put it out to the members. More than likely it will be later next week.
At that point, I'll knock out a few importers, maybe put out a bug fix release (those always come along), and then get to work on 7.2.

Just a suggestion, but rather than just having one big thread for discussing every possible topic related to 7.1 Beta 5, how about (any time) when a new version is released, make a subforum for the new version (e.g., 7.1 Beta5) so we don't have one gigantic thread with 15 conversations going in it at the same time.
Just a thought.
Basil

To be honest Basil, half the posts probably do not belong here - they are better suited to one of the other forums. These threads really should relate solely to the release, not to bugs, feature requests etc....
Which actually doesn't leave a lot LOL

Yeah, we don't want to get too complicated with these topics. Whenever an announcement is made there will always be some comments. I wanted to keep the announcements forum clean, but still allow for comments to be made. The topics may end up being many pages long, but there are already forums to cover all of the individual areas, feedbacks/suggestions, bugs, etc.
