I thought this was fixed in version 7 and that a user could not vote multiple times, but some of my users are reporting otherwise.

The problem comes from IP address. Are you stopping the IP address or the User ID? It would make most sense from my users standpoint to limit from the User ID. Setting this up off of IP address seems to be a bad choice because 1) people log in from different sources (at least to my forums) and 2) people with dynamic accounts tend to change IP address, which would then let them vote multiple times and also limit others from voting that may get the same IP address later. Yeah, I know the second is slim, but it actually happens frequently on my site (old one, haven't done that many polls on the new one yet).

Anyway, can someone confirm how the system is operating and what it is using as the limiter? Again, I thought there was discussion before that it was going to work off the user account and not the current IP address.

To the best of knowledge its against the user?
Ive never been able to vote twice.

Hope that helps.

p.s
Use the test forum on here to make a poll up your self
and then vote on it, you wont be able to vote again.

It depends on how the voting is allowed. If you are allowing anyone to vote, then it stores by IP address since some people that are voting won't actually have a userid. If you are allowing only registered users to vote then it stores by their actual userid.

We allow all registered users to vote.

I'll have to play with it from multiple IPs and check.

Thanks,
Fred
