(Version 7.0.0b1)

I have 2 accounts while i'm testing,
Admin and user.

When i log in as a user,
i recieve my welcome Pm.

but

I can reply to it.

Seems okay,
but when i log back in as Admin,
there is no record of a reply.

This could come across as being rude,
or ignoring a new members reply.

When the fact is that Admin knows nothing about it.

The reply was posted via quick reply,
and shows up in the "user" private messages.

I believe it is because the admin is set as "removed" from the message when its sent (else you'd end up with a new pm in your inbox for every new signup)... I think that this should be adjusted so that the pm is "closed" when sent... Well something should be done at least heeh

Would it not just be better that the welcome PM is recreated if a reply is made. On a busy board, you would not really want them just closed, deleted it better.

Either that or make them non-replyable (better option), but contain a link to start a new PM if the recipient needs assistance. This link could then go to either a form, a new PM or even a help-desk, depending upon what the site uses as its chosen method of assistance. Some large sites use a full blown help-desk, so a link to this would be the best option.

I guess the best option is to have several choices and leave it up to the admin to decide which to go for. Every site is different, depending upon the numbers of new members.

I'm sure i'm not loosing the plot,
but,

in the Admin control pannel....

Where can i locate, the Welcome Message Text?
And if there is an option to select which member is sending it.

I use classic, and this was one of the options available.

Control Panel (Where).
There dosent seem to be an edit available to
the welcome message, or selected user.

---------------
My current welcome pm's on my classic forums,
have hot links etc... to put a new member at eeezee
Like a NEW TOPIC in NEW Members.
Where to find extra info...
Where they should post about there items.

Our welcome messages are important.

PM Closed works for me smile

If i could find the Edit Welcome Pm option,
i guess you could just put a footer..

Thanks for reading, please do not reply?
As your reply will go in to space...
Please contact Admin or Moderators directly smile

Is it missing from the control panel?
Edit the welcome pm...

Ian - I'm not familuar with threads, so my thinking
is baised on classic. I'm learning they behave diffrent now

In threads the first you would know of the welcome PM is if someone replied to it. Otherwise it would not be in your inbox or outbox.

We are looking at a support desk option so that each admin knows what the other has done. The member can then update their ticket and everyone would know where they stood.

For us, we would want to have a link and not make the PM replyable.

Therefore the welcome PM's should be configurable for each individual forum.

Smaller forums and different requirements to larger sites.

All text in .threads is stored in language files. The language file it's stored in is related to the script that is actually running. In this case the welcome message is being added when a user is added, ubb=adduser, so that's where you'll find the text for this.

As it is, this is what it says:

Quote
Welcome to our forums! Please take a moment to review and update your profile and preferences to take full advantage of our features. You can do this by clicking on "Edit Profile" and "Edit Preferences" in the Forum Navigation island.

This topic has no other participants. It is simply a welcome message to thank you for joining our community.

That can be changed as needed by editing the language file. Maybe it needs to be edited to be more clear, the way it sounds right now is maybe misleading that it sounds like there are no other participants besides you and the person who sent it.

Ok, I changed the end of the default wording to:

Please do not reply to this message as this is just an automated welcome message to thank you for joining our community.

Beyond that change, anyone that needs something to be a bit more clear or complex can easily edit the language string.
