How many times does this happen? You get 10 new members and only 2 of them post.

Well, one possible reason for it is that they want to contact a member about a post that they have made and (depending on your forum settings) they can't view their e-mail address or send a PM unless they register.

It would be useful if we could email members who have not posted in say 3 months inviting them to revisit and post. smile

This could be an automatic thing, with members only getting one email every six months.

Member Management ->>Advanced Search Options

I suppose you can build a list ?

As you say depending on your settings your forcing
members to register to see more wink

I like it that the islands can show stuff
but clicking blocks the content wink

This has been something that's always made me wonder.

But I have a different take. For example on this forum (UBB) - I think I've been registered here for years, but seldom posted because:

1. I always felt stupid about asking help type questions - I always felt like I SHOULD know how to fix things. But I got over it. laugh

2. It's a very male-dominated forum - so it's difficult to "break in" - but I've got over that too. laugh

On my own forum, everyone knows everyone, and many people have been part of the forum for years. We also have an annual "get-together" somewhere in the U.S., so to new people it can look like we're very cliquey - although we're not. I've never been quite sure how to solve this problem. frown

I've found that it can be numerous things:
1. They don't feel comfortable posting, although they registered an account to either make a post or make a comment.
2. they found the info elsewhere
etc

yes, we even have people who fork over the 15 bucks to sign up and never post!

main reason is the hidden stuff that comes with that 15 bucks.

i had to be careful to not just arbitrarily prune 0 posters, because of it.

I always say, there's no such thing as a "stupid question". If you don't ask you'll never know and other people learn in the process of finding an answer. If someone thinks they've asked a stupid question I always encourage them and go that extra mile to help them out. They fell better, more confident, and others reading the posts might not feel as intimidated as before and start to post themselves.

There are, however, "lazy questions" were a user simply can't be bothered to even Google something simple and wants the work doing for them.

I have, but it hasn't been out too long so you don't know what will be the case 10-20 years down the road...

Plus I don't really have funding to do so lol...

It's been around for over a decade. A friend of mine had it done when it was really new, so far so good still.

However I hear conflicting answers from doctors so that doesn't instill much faith in it. I know a few people now that have had it done and they all went well. I'm a bit afraid though that I might be one of the rare cases and have something go wrong. My sight is okay now (could be much better) but that would suck to be one of the failures and end up with worse eyesight or worse yet be COMPLETELY BLIND!! - Now that is scary to me. Then even glasses would not be able to help you.

A decade yes, but i'm more concerned with long term effects wink...

I have no faith in it due to the confliction I hear about it too... I mean, my eyesight is bad and I have horrible allergies; last thing I need to do is end up blind with itchy eyes...

I believe they do one eye at a time.
So if there are any problems you have one eye left wink (or right lol)

My eyesight was so bad, I had to have what they call "refractive lens replacment", and then lasik on top of that. I had the lens replacement done one eye at a time (2 weeks in between), and one eye is for distance vision (which is now 20/25) and the other eye is for reading. They call it mono-vision. It sounds funky, but it works VERY well. smile

They still have to do the lasik - that comes 4 months after the other surgery, and all they do is make the final touches. I put off having it done for years, but finally my contact lenses were needing a new prescription every six months, and it was just a bit too much.

The cost is not cheap, but it was well worth it. You really have to put a high price on your eyesight. Plus I think most places let you "finance" it. We didn't, but we were told that it's an option.

I think the technology is so advanced now, there is very little risk. Make it your Christmas present, Giz. smile

BTW, I have some friends with contacts, and several have had doctors not even notice... Seems that the disposables are the same thing as the RX, and so long as you clean them regularly you can make a disposable set of contacts last several years...

My friend had her doctor state, "You take really good care of your contacts, you've had this same pair for 3 years and they look brand new"; little did he know it was a pair of disposables she had bought a year prior...

And sure, you can finance it, if you pass a credit check; fat chance of that happening lol...

Well, as we have no sun in the UK I can only assume that your need for this type of "face furniture" is simply down to the fact that the brightness on your monitor is set too high. shocked

Actually I don't remember what month it was when I visited London but the weather was actually quite nice there at the time. Sun was out for me then. Perhaps 30 years ago there was not as much SMOG and other pollutants in the air wink
