Are there any Gotcha's to be aware of when migrating a back up from a mysql 4 to a mysql 5

History :
I have been running Mysql 4.1 (I think)
and due to a cock up on my part my server is being re-installed.
Ive asked them if Mysql 5 can be installed, but are there any factors i need to be aware of or may catch me out?

Or should it be fine?

Thanks in advance Mark.

When we went from Plesk 8.01 to 8.1.1 (and from MySQL 4 - 5) we lost all the auto_increment fields in every database. I had to go back and manually re-do them. It was probably just a fluke, but was very time consuming none-the-less :smash:

Would i be able to fix a simular issue?

Importing from 4 to 5 i see no problem with this, especially as an import (vs a direct upgrade like allen's issue).

As a new install no issue. If it was an upgrade then yes a couple things "could" bite you like passwords etc..

Interesting. This usual happens after you downgrade from MySQL 5 back to 4 using mysqldump.

I never had any issue upgrading directly from MySQL 4 to 5, but I am using Debian wink

My current install was a backup from MySQL 4.x at server A. That backup was imported on a MySQL 5.x at server B, and has worked without a problem. I don't see why you would have any problem with the change to MySQL 5.x.

I do! His webhost b0ggering the permissions and chmods on the data in the MySQL directory lol... Most files belonged to root, and some where chmodded 700... Took me like 15 minutes to notice and bit to repair lol... The beginning of the night :falls over:

My host did the deed, so I'm not sure exactly what steps they took, I *do* know it took me days to fix the fallout wink

You know, i don't think they used the CentOS yum repo to upgrade yours allen; I think they simply removed MySQL then re-installed it; as tha'ts the "clean" route to upgrade

FC and CentOS are still RH builds, I don't care what anyone says wink...
