My users would like to have a personal blog type of function. Where they could write some musing and perhaps make it public or private. If public maybe pump the latest 5 headlines from the personal blogs to a content island -- If private a way for people to be approved to read a persons blog. It does not even need to be a fancy blog with pictures and such -- just some text and maybe some hyperlinks. Not sure if its in Ricks plans or not but they wanted me to ask I am mean to my visitors and won't script it in myself -- I want to stay stock .. so I will ask Rick to do it

I believe this has been discussed and is in a plan for a future upgrade. As to when I wouldn't be able to speculate.

Indeed, it's on the chalkboard, as is some video blogging support; this was said to be on the plate for 7.2 but was pushed back due to time constraints.

This is something my users would really like too. I'd like to see it as much as real blogging applications as possible though.

This will be coming. Doubtful in 7.3, but definitely by 7.4. As is the case with most new features like this it probably won't start out with everything under the sun like a true blogging system, but we'll try to get the basics in like we did with the photo gallery, that we can expand on.

Better to have a heavily tested, well worked on base system that can be improved upon than a half arsed bloated mega system...

Dam the word "Probably" sneaked in there. I'll probably schedule the payment and blog features for 7.3, and focus on getting some smaller things into 7.2 so we can get into a private beta release sometime in the short term. << From change log discussion. O well at least its on the road map

I still want to see moblogging built in. Especially with the Gallery now working and the upcoming user blogs. I think it could all fit together in a really cool package. I've been having a great time with my Groupee account with the moblog and photo gallery features that they have.
I'd also like to see inter-embedability between all of the Groupee and Threads features.

mobile blogging? I can see it now, trying to teach users how to not completely screw up their email while showing them how to setup a tunnel from their email aliases and threads...

Camera phone blogging. Emailing photos from your cam-phone into a gallery or your personal blog. I think you are making this too difficult.

I understand how users send content, however, content from an email address to threads would be done in one of two ways: 1. Threads reads from POPMail to retrieve content. 2. Threads reads from a tunnel which is set as an alias with your email server.
#2 is best as it'd update content as it's recieved; #1 would go through a timer.
These would be the only ways of getting emailed messages from users into threads... I'm not "making this too difficult", it's how I've worked with similar projects...

I still think it can be done and that we should have some faith in the idea.

Oh, it can totally be done, not saying that; I'm just saying that it'd be quite difficult, and dangerous, for an everyday user to use the email piping method (not to mention they'd have to have permissions to edit the email configuration files on their server to setup the email pipe).
In my post I was meerely stating that the only "all around" type would be a pop3 email reader which would parse emails (as thats all a "picture message" from a cellphone is)

I'm thinking it should be setup to go into the user's individual blog or a moblog gallery as set up by the admin. That's what I'd love to see someday.

I'm more talking about how it'd get TO the forum (from a cellphone) rather than where it would end up...
