I need an option for pulled portal news to cut them down to XX chars to prevent that very long postings completly displayed. There should be an admin option in the control panel which allow me to set how much chars of a posting maximum displayed on the portal page.
Wenn reached the limit an intelligent break must be set (on a whitespace before ore after the limit counts) and a continue link should be displayed.
The main problem may be a strict count of all chars. When you do this possible ubb code, links and other not displayed code will be counted too and this can be result in very nasty outputs if the max counter breaks in a picture link or part of a ubb code block. The result can be a complete broken layout.
But a setable limit must be.

I agree. This is a very useful feature.

I'd like to do some user specified cutoff point on a per post basis without making it overly complicated. What I mean is some type of markup that designates what part of the post should show on the portal. The reason for this is there are some times where you might want to include more or less of a post on the portal. Maybe something like, if you're posting a topic on a forum that is portal enabled then there is a button above the posting area. Something like "End News Blurb". When you click it it would insert something like and would only display things above that point on the portal. An example: I just discovered today that I like toast. I like it slightly brown covered in butter. Sometimes I even put on top of it.
I could eat toast for breakfast, lunch and dinner! If I were to type that, only the text above would show on the portal.

The whole message would display on the forum without the tag.
