PDAs are increasingly ubiquitous. well, at least where i live they are.

the problem is, accessing an UBB7 board is made rather difficult, as much of the javascript does not work on PDAs. this makes opening the drop-down menus impossible. it also means the shoutbox does not work.

any thoughts on how UBB could be made PDA friendly?

I've been (well, so have a lot of UBBDev people in private discussion) giving some thoughts into mobile templates with the UBB; but we're still giving thoughts to restrictions with some browsers and all that pizazz...

what about the shoutbox? is there any hope that that might be able to be used on a PDA at some point? what are the technical reasons behind the PDA's inability to run the shoutbox?

I think a mobile version would be stripped down to JUST the forum itself, no portal... The reason would be, it'd be too much for those poor little screens to load lol...

I actually use my black berry against my boards fine. I have to turn on being able to execute javascript for the shout box but I can make a post. you have to spend time sorting out where the links are because you have now screen to work from haha laugh

I hear odd things with the PSP, apparently the browser doesn't have a scrollbar...

I'm going to be putting linux on my DS sometime soon, so i'll be playing with FireFox on my NDS lol

With the Internet becoming more portable these days I think being able to access threads could be a huge selling point for the product.

I have had a few inquiries from my site members as well.

Please UBB for PDAs!
+1 from me.

If I was smarter I would try to make a "Lo-Fi" type of layout similar to how Invision power board does it. I think that would work fine for my users PDA requirements.

This has always been an 'issue' for people viewing with PDA's etc.

I too would like to see an alternative template that is automatically detected.

i did a mod over @ ubbdev, which would allow you to run just the shoutbox on your PDA.. i've had people use it on their iPhone, iTouch etc.. and it worked fine smile
