We've just switched over to the wwwthreads (php) software, and in the first 24 hours of actual operation I already have a crash that needs resolving...

No idea exactly what the user was doing, but they sent this to my attention....
Was this the only user to report this? If you are on a hosted server it's possible that the mysql server was restarted or temporarily unavailable, as that is what the error message is stating "Lost connection to MySQL server"
I just got an eamil from my server I thought you might want to hear about...
Aparently there is a conflict between php4 and mysql.

Or at least I think I did. It's not a MySQL problem at all. It's a PHP problem. There is an incompatibility between PHP and the new MySQL. The good news is that I think we can fix it. The bad news is that it isn't a trivially easy fix, and will take a while.

They're going to try recompiling php see if that won't take care of the problem, but I thought you might want to check into it a bit as it affects w3t - php.
