Did any of your admins use the purge old users function? I really don't see any other way that the users could have been deleted. I just double checked the altertable files and there were no delete statements against the w3t_Users table.

I have noticed that a lot of users cant be found searching by the Username, email or whatever. The only way they can be found is to list them by their letter with the "Show User" tool. But if I choose "All Users" they are not shown.
Most of the users that are invisible have been registered within 9 months but not all!? Some users have been registered 4 weeks ago and still works.
Users that are invisible do work fine at the moment but when I try to upgrade they don't work anymore but they still exist in the databse.
I've got 6.0.2 up and going, and found at least one user that isn't showing up in the user list at all, they do show in the who's online while they're using the system, but not in the user list, nor does searching for them via the admin section.
They do show up in the database via phpmyadmin.

I think I may have figured out why I'm missing about 80 users. Looks like the U_approved flag is not set for some users. I picked one and put yes in that field and viola that user showed up in the user list.
What would be the syntax to issue a command via phpmyadmin to run through and approve every record?
As a side note, I selected approve users and no one showed up in that, so the system knows they're there, but doesnt' know show them there, nor does it know to put them in limbo waiting to be approved.

Some users I can type in their exact username just fine, they show up. Other users don't, but if I do a search by letter they show up fine. It boggles my mind <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />
Running 6.0.2 now, and I noticed that the users that were missing were set to 'not approved' go into your database directly via phpmyadmin and take a look, soon as I changed the approved flag to yes they showed back up where they belong.

Exampel user Calle_B (UBBt 5.5.1) Can't be found using Calle_B as the searchword using the admin tool. But if I browse users by the letter "C" it shows up.
If I do an SQL query the user can be found using this search pattern, select * from w3t_Users where u_username like "Calle_B%" But not with this one, select * from w3t_Users where u_username like "%Calle_B%"
When I try to upgrade the Altertable script can't find the user.

1. I haven't uppgraded my "live" forum yet so the problem is with 5.5.1 not the upgrade (Maybe I should start a new topic :-))
2. I have tried to upgrade but on a copy.
3. The strange users can't be found at all after the upgrade.
4. In 5.5.1 there is no Aproved field.
5. On the main page the total number of users that are displayed are correct but when I check under Admin -> User Stat, the number of users is aprox 1000 less.
6. At some point I did some modifications to the Index thing that was recomended a while ago. Can it be something wrong there? How can I check that the db structure is ok?
When you say "can't be found" are you saying that you can't find them in the database with something like phpMyAdmin or that you can't find them with a query in the ubb.threads user query tool?
If they are totally gone and cannot be found with either tool then I would recommend that you ask them to re-register and then change the profile fields in the database to give them them correct number of posts, etc.
As Rick noted, there are no 'delete' statements issued from the import scripts so they may have been dropped on the way over.
I don't like idea to tell the users to register again and to change the settings for 1000 users!
What if I upgrade and the problem still exist?
The users are in the db at the moment and they can login so the users do not experience any problems. It must be a way to keep them during the upgrade.
If that one user re-registers you won't need to chagne any settings for anyone else - maybe just the post counts for that one member, and that's only if they are concerned about it.
Why that one member is missing I can't answer and again, as Rick noted - there are NO delete statements issued during the upgrade.
If you want to delete the database, create a new one and do the import again you can try and see if they come over in a new import.
You can always reimport them into a site which you setup but did not change any settings on (allow special characters) and see if they show up in that installaion.

If you still have the users in the old ubb format then you can reimport the whole installation into a development database and see if they make it over.
If they were lost then I suspect that they were corrupt or did not match the criteria for viable accounts or one of them was corrupt and that caused the row counting to be off for the remainder of the import.
Did you lose all your Members AFTER a certain point? Meaning 399 - 1099?
