Hi Peoples,

I was fiddling with things in the control panel, and thought it would be a good idea to put -1 beside users and guests in the control panel permissions area so that they could never get to the control panel ... and it's locked me out of the control panel even though Admins has a 1 next to it.

I've put in a support request with Rick, but in the meantime I thought I'd see if anyone here has a solution.

Version 7.3.

cheers

It'd be because EVERY user is a user... You'll want to log in to the MySQL database through PHPMyAdmin and remove that permission so users CAN access the control panel.

Keep in mind, -1 means anyone, reguardless of the group, has that permission; so you just screwed yourself lol

Thanks gizmo,

If anyone wants to explain that so that a novice can understand I'd appreciate it. I've found PHPmyadmin, and the CP permissions table, but I have no idea what to change.

Oh, and as for screwing myself i figured that out a few hours back. I can't really see the use for -1 if it's going to be so damaging.

cheers

Well, you'd use it in a new group you'd create, vs one of the standard/default ones; it's for cleaning up permissions; say you didn't want anyone to use PT's, then you'd create a new group named restricted; and make it a default registration group, then you can open it up to users by removing them from that group.

As for fixing the permission, I'm not sure which perm table it'd be, you may try seeing if "forums_CP_PERMISSIONS" has any -1's in it, if so, edit it and set it to 0
