Hi, - A member of my community couldn't login today because they said they forgot their password.
- When they clicked on the link that sent them a temporary password, it didn't work either.
- Nor is the system recognizing the member's email address.
- I logged in as this member and reviewed her profile info. I emailed her to give her the info from her profile.
- She emailed back to say she still couldn't get in.
Is there a way I can go to myphpadmin and see her password as she entered it in English? Otherwise, what should I tell her? Should I suggest she open a new login and that I'll delete her old one later? What should I do and how should I handle this? Thanks. P.S. This is pretty time sensitive issue since the lady is interested in teaching from the forums. Thanks. Ms. Letha

I tell my members who have any problems that the first thing they should do is try "expiring" their cookies via the forum... it may or may not help...
I miss the old way where you can look up passwords directly in plain English, but I guess I can see the security risks with that...

Hello again,
How do you expire cookies via the forum? Thanks.

Actually, if they can't log in that won't help much. Have them try deleting the cookie(s) from their browser...

one quick/dirty fix is to.. 1) edit their profile 2) change the email addy to one that you can receive emails with 3) have it email the psw 4) change the email back to their former addy 5) tell them the temporary psw that was emailed to you(them)

Well, both are great.
Since she can't login at all, I think I'll tell her to first delete the cookies from her browser. Once she's logged back in I still can't explain how she can expire the cookies from her "My Stuff" menu because my version doesn't give me this option.
I suppose the best thing to do is to tell her to create a new login and then go in and delete her old one.
I'm a little disappointed in why her temporary password emailed didn't work for her. As long as this works, she can go straight to her profile and just change the current password or just retype the same password over the old. I did!
Thanks again, Trix

In v7.3 you don't have the option to expire cookies as a guest user (not logged in).
V7.1 and v7.2 does have a "Cookie" link.

one thing that i find happens is a user has a username and a displayname
they sometimes think that they need to login with the displayname + psw, instead of original username that they signed up as.
also, the email might be getting caught in a spam filter somewhere.

Hi Gizmo,
Oh my gosh! I believe that's definitely the fastest way to fix things.
Thanks bunches. And thanks everyone else for your help also. I haven't ever used the "Cookie" link to expire cookies. Another good solution.
Bye, Trix

I was going to suggest the same thing as Gizmo - I often do this, as fairly often people claim the temp password does not work.
