Still wondering why we don't use a css hack to shove all of the ie compatability hacks into their own file; so ffox/opera users don't have to deal with them :/

How far out in the sticks are you driv?

I'm currently lodging with the outlaws so don't have a broadband connection. I was on dial-up but decided to give mobile broadband a go. Went with 3 as it was the best deal and it's made a lot of difference. Started on the 3Gb package (£15 p/m) and upgraded to the 7Gb at £25 p/m. It's not true broadband but it's much better than dial-up. You'll need to check your coverage to make sure you're in a good reception area.

I just visit family every now and then and they don't have broadband - it is available tho'. My sons laptop is showing loads of local connections but none of them are 'available' wink

I'm using an old laptop (6+ years old) that still has a 56k modem laugh laugh laugh

Ah, so it's not where you're living, it's where your visiting.

There I was thinking "poor ol' driv, having to contend with dial-up" when all along you were just playing the sympathy card. Pah! you fraudster you. I used to think you were such a nice person. I should have listened to my folks when they told me never to trust anyone you encounter in life called driv! :sob: :weep: :spit:

I'm actually lost for words - for once!
Oh where oh where to start?

Well I live in Essex, so I get a nice 10mb connection normally. But when visiting - (usually elder family members) well they generally aren't bothered with that internet stuff that us young 'uns are so worked up about.

As for being called driv - well that's my adopted name given to me by the village elders of Harlow after single handedly defeating the man eating vampire sloth of Old Epping Towne....

C'mon mate - let's go and have a pint. wink

31 in a 30 zone?

I'll tell you what else sucks about this. You now have to notify your insurers so your premium will go up. If you don't, your insurance becomes void if you have to claim or someone claims against you. Your points will stay on your license for 3 years but whenever you renew your insurance they want to know if you have any convictions in the last 5 years so even when your points are removed by the DVLA you are still being penalised by the insurers. Surely they are the criminals here. Robbing b******s!

I really loved it. The great thing for me is that everyone speaks at least some English and some speak English very well.

The people though very poor are very friendly overall.

In the Bahamas very few people spoke English (or just didn't want to talk with you unless they were selling something).

I'll be working on a Website to upload all my images and maybe some in their original format but not many as they are quite large.

NT, good to know you had a great time! smile

I am a regular visitor to South East Asia (I lived there for many years and still have 'roots' there.) Although I have spent more time in Thailand, Hong Kong, Singapore etc. I have many Kabayan in Europe, Canada and the Middle East. The people of the Phillipines are prolific travellers smile

In my travels to other countries, I have only really encountered two countries that posed problems with speaking in English.

One was Morocco, where the two most spoken languages were Mahgrebi & French.

I got by on my 'school' French (we're all taught this in Europe) and Arabic, which is widely spoken in Morocco but not a 'main' language. The people *really* tried to understand me and were most helpful and friendly.

However, the second was France. And frankly - they pissed me off! I know most of them speak English, but won't! And if you speak your 'best' French, they just make ugly faces and say 'Je ne vous comprends pas'

So why bother going there? They don't want tourists.

Ah well - that's life! If there were no diversity, where would we be?

(Sounds of hysterical laughter fading into distance......)

Don't get me started on the French wink

Personally I would like our schools to teach Spanish as the default language - much more usable worldwide. Even here in the US it seems that Spanish is fast taking over!

I totally agree. My son had two options, French & German. I suggested he go with french as I've never spoken German since I left school.

Had Spanish been an option, I would have suggested that.

I'd go French; French and English are two of the most widely used languages in the world

Spanish is far more widely spoken than French - French is just the diplomatic language.

Several other languages are very similar to Spanish such as Portuguese which helps in those countries.

And yes driv - I am still here grin
