Hmmmm not sure off the top of my head I'd say no, but if you have 7.3 it has a complete new group and permissions routine that I'm not 100% familiar with yet so it might be possible.

Maybe someone else can chime in and let you know for sure and if so exactly how to set it.

you can, but if they belong to any group which allows pm's then they will be able too pm.

If I have Group "A" and I want to disable all PM's for that group. How do I do it? I couldn't find it in at all in the CP?

Thanks

Not correct Gizmo... If you enter a -1 for any specific permission, then a user will not have that permission even if they belong to other groups that do have it set.

Musky, disabling PM's is done by setting the Control Panel > site permissions > Total # of private topics allowed to zero (or -1).

Well, he's wanting to have it so that if a user is in the users group that they'd not have pt's, everyone belongs to this group by default; so -1 he'll need to take and remove everyone from it...

Basically it doesn't look like you can do it based on GROUP membership alone.

What I did for this was create a group non pm's. I copied the same permissions from user group than removed pm access. When a member we want removed from having pm's I unchecked their user permission from user and check the one that says non pm's.

I have not had a problem yet.

Then you are reading stuff I don't read. And you were still wrong.

Leave your normal groups alone, add one "You cannot PM group" with all neutral permissions, just set PM topics to -1. Adding any user to that "You cannot PM" group will then deny them PM rights.

Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning; I'm not even going to bother with this...
