Well, last Saturday was my birthday. Our family ate out at Buca di Beppo. We ordered my favorite Italian (or should I say Italian-American) dish, Chicken parmesan.

Anyway, I came up with an idea for an interesting poll. Do you prefer Chicken parmesan, Eggplant parmesan, or Veal parmesan?

As you should know, I prefer Chicken parmesan. I once tried Veal parmesan at Olive Garden (which they have discontinued), and it was okay, however, I never liked Eggplant parmesan much.
What do you prefer?

Sorry, I couldn't vote. I don't like any of them and you didn't have that option wink

Speaking of this, I wonder why Veal parmesan was discontinued at Olive Garden. Perhaps it wasn't popular enough, or because of the animal cruelty concerns with veal. Buca di Beppo still serves Veal parmesan though.

I'll take veal when I can find it. The others look like good choices too, although I don't seem to remember anything about eggplant Parmesan.

Surprisingly, only Eggplant parmesan is well known in Italy, as it originated in Sicily. Chicken and Veal parmesan were created by Italian immigrants who came to the U.S.

I voted for veal. I prefer eggplant but it gives me heartburn so I avoid it.

Interesting! I didn't realise that a veg could give heartburn.
Is it fried?

I get heartburn from only one thing - Orange Juice!
What a bugger!

What could be nicer to clean you mouth prior to investing in a large English fry-up; sausages, eggs (fried), bacon, beans, tomatoes, mushrooms, fried bread and smother it all in hp brown sauce.

Oh yeah, sod the heart attack!

Yep usually eggplant is breaded and fried. Somtimes not. depending on where you eat.
But as you know the older we get the less our body tolerates. Even though we may still like it.

Heartburn can be triggered from stuff like:

Tomato
Chocolate
Coffee
Alcohol
Greasy/Fatty food of just about any variety.

I love pizza but if I eat too much of it I will be very sorry I did about 4 in the morning as I awake to a severe burn in the throat that antacid will not take away and an urge to throw up.
So even though I love it I have to watch it and not eat too much of it. frown

I also find that Alcohol sets it off for me almost instantly.

'Depending' is very much key there Ruben... smile

Eggplant is known in UK as Aubergine.

I think it's fair to say, most people would grill or bake this.

The alternative for this lovely veg (macua sii muang) in South East Asia is to curry it with coconut milk.
(oh God - it's soooh good!)

Then there's my favourite eggplant (macua puang)

The picture shows a large variety - but I prefer the 'pea' size type - they literally explode in your mouth (after having been marinated in a curry sauce).

I think I'm having a Homer Simpson moment; Can't talk, eating.... wink
