Hi

I bought this software thinking it would be easy to setup.
I have no clue how to get things working, and the instructions are not that clear.
My ISP hasn't heard of InfoPop, and don't know what I'm talking about (I'm in Australia).
I managed to upload the program to an ftp server but nothing happens when I follow the instructions. The install files don't do anything, and I'm completely lost here, but willing to try and learn.
Are there any install instructions for complete newbies?
Thanks.

Let's start from the beginning on this one:

1) Does your ISP have mySQL installed?
2) Does your ISP have php installed?
3) What kind of machine is this: Unix/Linux or NT/Win2k?

If you can answer those questions for us I suspect that we can help you get going <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

Hi Brett

My ISP can provide all of these things.
They are asking me questions about whther or not I want to have everything running from my computer or on their web server? They talked about having MySQL running on their server, but wouldn't that be run from my own machine?
I have a very fast PC with huge HD, and high speed cable connection at home, so I don't know if that means I would be better having it running on my PC? I'm confused about what I need to pay for, and what the best options are?
I have already purchased my domain name some time ago, but unsure how I go about using it?

I'm keen to learn about the software and administer the site myself, but I just need to get it up and running first.
THanks.

You could host it yourself... but that's fairly complicated and you need a static IP address.

If you are just getting started, I would get a webhost that provides you with PHP and MySQL. Everything runs on the webserver. You basically copy the files to your server space.... and load http://yourdomain.com/ubbthreads/install.php in your browser.

You'll need to have a database created... and a database user (your host can probably help with this) and you'll need to know the URLs and Paths to your threads install (your host should help with that as well).

If you are in over your head... Infopop has installation services available. It's pretty easy to setup and install, if you have path/url knowledge. Most installation troubles are because of confusion with these.

If you do go at it yourself, we can help you here as much as possible. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

Good luck! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

Thanks very much!
I have found a web hosting company that can offer me dedicated MySQL database, PHP support etc.
I started with 30MB of webspace, which should be enough to get me started?
I'll keep persevering, and asking questions if I get stuck again (likely).

Hope to give you all good news that it's up and running soon!

Yeah,
That host sounds like it'll work and 30 MB shoudl get you going nicely. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

Ok I got setup, and added an admin account. It said that it was sending a password to me, however I'm not sure where that email is as I go through a web hosting bunch. I can't begin to change the site by adding new forum topics etc. I'm also missing some icon images (such as the main UBB Threads one that takes me to the infopop page)?
Help!

It sounds like your Stlesheet path or URL is wrong if you're seenig a "gneric" type board.

It would be easier to tell if you would post a URL, I can look.

Hi Josh

This is a temporary link until my own one comes up after re-delogation

do you have MSN? If so, what's your hotmail account?

As soon as I click I'm taken to this URL:

http://htsciencecom.ozstaging.com//UBBThreads/ubbthreads.php?Cat=

Running under 2 different domains will give you cookie troubles for sure. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/wink.gif" />

Also.... note the extra slash where it has //

Check your config file for a trailing slash and remove it. That'll cause some trouble with loading images and stylesheets.

Otherwise it looked fine for me. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

Hi Josh

I only have it running on one domain - the ozhosting one!
I'm awaiting news that my URL is ready to use then I will copy everything across.
I tried viewing the config.php file using my FTP explorer, however even after I removed the extra '/' from each of the URL's mentioning 'htscience' nothing changed, and the images are still screwed up as usual?
DO you need admin rights to fix this? I'm more than happy to give them to you if you need to have a fiddle with things.
Cheers.

Well.. you've got it running at:

htscience.com

and htsciencecom.ozstaging.com

To the system, those cookies will appear very different.

I'm not really seeing a problem when I look at your board. Most likely if thigns are displaying properly for you, it's a path or URL problem.

I don't work for Infopop.... but if you want an infopopper to look at your board, you can open a support ticket here.

They are moving offices this weekend though, so it may be Monday before you hear back.

Hi Josh

I'll check that out with OzHosting, as it should only be running on one address?
Thanks for the help.

I hear that you do work for other clients on site layout design etc?
Do you have a breakdown of your prices?

Josh,

When you say that it's running on two sites, I tried both URL's and on the htscience.com one it simply says "coming soon".
Not sure what you meant?

You listed 2 different URLs above in your post.

http://htscience.com/UBBThreads/ubbthreads.php

http://htsciencecom.ozstaging.com//UBBThreads/ubbthreads.php

Both are very different. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/wink.gif" />

Hmmm...the ozstagin one was supposed to be a temp thing while they got my domain name from it's parking space?
Maybe the site has duplicated...I need ti find out how I can take UBB off of one of them?
Still having problems with missing images etc....not good. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="images/icons/frown.gif" />

What specific images are missing for you? The only one I see missing in the infopop logo.

check to make sure you uploaded the /images/powered_by2.gif image. That's the only one that is missing for me.

Again... you need to check your path and URL settings. I still see the extra slash in the URL....which might be messing up the path or URL to the images. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/wink.gif" />

If you need to, post the Path and URLs here from your config file and I'll look them over for you.

Actually I found another missing image when I viewed a profile.

The URL's are right.... all the images didn't get uploaded. Re upload the images folder. Some of the images are missing because they simply aren't there. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/wink.gif" />

Hi Josh

There are some double slashes, however when I remove them from the config.inc.php file and then save them, they won't go away? when I refresh and view the file the double slashes are back where I just removed them from?

weird!

The file is definitely on the site, but not working?

Hmmm I can't get at your forum to check the poweredby logo. The links above dont' work.

You can "view source" of your page, and look for where it's trying to load the image from.

It sounds like your config file is not writable. Change it's permissions to 777... then it should accept and update the changes when you edit it using the online editor.

Hi Josh

I decided to delete everything and start again.
Everything goes fine on the install, where everything passes (after having to set the permissions on a lot of icons to 666). It then fails saying that "tables have already been created'?
I tried just running the main ubbthreads.php file but it has lots of errors?
I can't get past this part - any ideas?

If you want to start over, you'll have to drop the database tables so you are starting with an empty database.

Actually it is working now webwalker. The front page looks just fine but you still have the same problem that Josh noticed with the two url's.

All you need now is to keep on adding your categories and forums and then invite your users in.
