7.4.1 : Move Merge Topic.
I'm sure this was reported as fixed from 7.2.2
But its still the same, i have a hunch its to do with Subforums.

In Level 1 Subforum.

1. Made a New Topic.
2. Visited an existing topic in the Subforum.
3. Used Move Merge from a post x down.
4. (Merge with) And it appears ON TOP of My New Topic.

Then when i try to split it apart again i get "This will effect all of this Topic" something like that.

Ive also had this can not me moved as its the main / first post, when it was previously but its now the 3rd post down.

Ive held back upgrading as i have so many topics that need to be split and merged. So far its messed up a important thread and ive had to use "Quote" to get some normality back to it.

This is an issue with the way we're merging. Basically we're just sticking the merged posts into the designated topic, but we still order by Post ID. So, if the posts you are merging were made before the posts in the designated topic, it kinda goes crazy.

What I have to do is actual change it so the merged posts are renumbered.

Bit more feed back.

I have a Chat thread.
And someone posted 32 Posts one after the other ( Same Member )
And now and then a single comment from a member.

These were all tonight.

So My Job was to split all 32 posts to make SINGLE Topics.
The good news was it almost worked?

I had 2 posts that continued to cling on to the end of the Topic i was splitting.

I would move the "Last" post out,
and lone behold, the 2 comments were still on the end
of the original "Thread" This continued for at least 12
Posts of spliting and then one would stay attached,
and then a few later i lost the last one too.

Its a pain for me as i have to hack topics apart to keep some
topics legal, and when they go nuts it just spoils it all
and makes me look stupid, as the thread go nuts.

I have nor do my Moderators have any Faith in the current Move Merge topic / post.

We just dont know when its gonna fail frown

I think the example above ive given is different to your situation you have replied too Rick.

This does need looking at, as i'm sure you had posted this was
fixed after 7.2.2 ?

Hi

I'm no longer getting the 'move post' option. Any Ideas?

Mark, splitting a topic gets to be a pain because it depends on who each one replied to. If everyone replies to the original post, it's easy. If everyone replies to the last post, it's easy. But if anyone uses quickquote or quickreply from an individual post anywhere in the thread it can create a thread with multiple branches.

That's where it tends to end up messy, since you'll move one post and might end up with half the thread coming along with it. Move one of those out and you might end up with the same thing.

When it comes to moving, if you really want to see what ones are coming with it, a good way for now is to pop over to threaded mode and you can see all the replies that are on that particular branch you're going to be splitting off.

Okay i will give that a try as much as a pain as it will be
seeing that i have an option to move a post and its replies
and it doesn't work as expected.

Its a feature i need to use a lot.

Sorry to be blunt Rick,
but i cant see the point of having it as an option if
it don't work as expected.

It breaks topics, and just causes problems, not solutions.

Will let you know how i get on with your advice.

It's part of the beast of needing to support threaded mode. When you move a post it has to take it's replies along with it. When we redo the UI, we'll probably redo this where you can do some sort of inline moderation. Maybe checking off posts in a topic as you're reading them and then have some options to do something with all of the checked, move, delete, etc.

Thanks for the feedback.

I just hate it when things don't work,
and with no Gizmo there's no one to kick.

Finger's Crossed.

Boy your UI Update list between the lines is getting bigger and bigger.

Cheers.
