Running 7.4
Many of my users are complaining that they are no longer receiving emails notifications when they get sent a PM.

I've not changed anything since going to 7.4 at the back end of last year - and checking a random sample of user details show that they all have the receive email checkbox checked.

Has anyone come across this issue before? Is there anything i should be checking.

I have noticed that my logging is disabled - so i've re-enabled it (to keep an eye).

Well it could be your host has changed something.
Or the users in question are rejecting the email based on user software security settings.
I would enable PM emails for yourself as a starter. So at least you know they are working.

I have and even got someone to pm me - even i dont get them!
What's more, i do get the email alerts when either a post requires moderation/approval or a new member joins....

I'm not on perfect speaking terms with my host as i'm in the midst of moving all of my sites across to a new host - my UBB's are the last to go.
I guess i could hold out until they're settled on the new host, but (a) thats not taking place until Easter (as its a weekend job) and (b) its irritating the hell out of my users...hey ho

What about the other email features such as email post or watched topics etc? Are they working?
Also is anyone getting an error message when sending a PM?

Thanks for your PM on my site - no i did not get a notification of it.
Thanks also for pointing out the changing setting once registered - i will query the full database to see the settings at the user level - the random sample i took all had it set to yes...

I will test out the other notifications today - i was getting notifications when posts were made in the moderated forums (vacancies etc) but we've not had some in a while so i'll re-test that area to ensure its working still.

Problem:
Only some email notifications are being sent

Details:
If you are getting email notifications of watched forums and emails for birthdays,
but NOT getting PM email notifications (when switched on) or
watched topic email notifications then it could be

Possible solution:

If you are running on Linux and using local SMTP
check the php.ini settings for mail

In my case they where set for windows: (ie wrong if using linux and local smtp)

[mail function]
; For Win32 only.
SMTP = localhost
smtp_port = 25


changed these to:

[mail function]
; For Win32 only.
; SMTP = localhost
; smtp_port = 25

You will need server administrator access or Ask your host provider to check.

Once I changed then all emails got sent out.

That would only fix it if the mail's SMTP server is not localhost (which most of the times is) and/or smtp port is different from 25.

We're suddenly having the same issue on our Forums!!

I have not changed any settings at all and all of a sudden 2 days ago no one has been receiving any new PM's, watched Topics, and our Mods are not receiving Post Notifications.

We're running v7.2.

Can anyone help me troubleshoot this? Pretty Please?

Have you tested the other email features, such as email a post and registration emails.
I would try emailing a post to a email address outside of your domain.
Then access your main email account used in the forum and do the same.

Could be your host changed something.

All of the emails come from what is set in:
Control Panel » Primary Settings
Board Email Address:
you may need to expand the advanced options to check for items such as smtp server.

Hopefully your mail email address is not blacklisted.
I had that happen to me once but between Rick and I we got it fixed. It did take a few.
