I have HTML turned off due to security issues, but wouldn't it be great to have just UBB code functionality for tables (i.e. [table], [tr] and [td])?

I have seen that in other software. You could choose the tags you wanted to use.
I think one of the nuke cms uses it.

You can make those tags yourself in the new custom tag editor in 7.3.

Really? I thought they had 3000 channels?

It seems like we get around 50% of our late evening stuff from the 'states anyway.

I've been watching Dexter recently - which is quite amusing in a 'dark' way.

I really used to like Stargate - shame that's gone frown

Have you seen 'Air Crash Investigations'?
Wow, compulsive (car crash) viewing....

Ignoring the 2 pages of noise and getting back to the original topic -- has anyone used the custom tag editor to create table codes?

While creating the regex to replace [ table ] with < table >, and so on, is simple enough what about validating the actual table syntax to ensure the actual post/forum structure doesn't get violated?

Well, you'd want your tag to be "table" and it'll only read content between [table][/table]; so long as you format the regex's properly and nest everything properly there shouldn't be any issues throwing the design off...

Are you suggesting you'd just need to create one custom tag for "table" and construct a regex that would account for a variable number of TRs and TDs?

I'd love to see that.

The reason I think it's more complicated than that is due to a table's unbound structure. The list markup is something similar to table markup, and it was implemented via a function(!) for ubb.threads, not a simple one-liner regex.

No, I'm sugguesitng you construct a tag for table that just handles the table tag; simply put, a user would put [table]content[/table] which would result in:
Code
<table>content</table>

Then construct a seperate for tr and td and scold them if they don't nest properly; as I highly doubt you or i have the knowhow to construct a regex capable of ensuring no harm ever for tables lol...

You can most likely, and I may be wrong as usual, be able to add that stuff to your UBB Code in your "FAQ" section as well.

*sigh* you're only repeating back what I said:

Creating individual custom tags for TABLE, TR and TD will not work. It's the same reason why you don't have separate tags for UL, OL and LI.

Scolding users for breaking the forum structure doesn't cut it either.

Well, unfortunately I'm not sure how you'd validate such information to create such a potentially huge regex...
