Hi all,

I have been using Infopop/UBB since 1999 and just today upgraded to Threads from a largely dead 'Classic' edition.

I ran the set-up for Threads and all went well. I skipped the end part (setting up Admin) and the system did the tables.

I then used the 'Import' script (classic_import) and for some bizarre reason the script won't accept the location of my Member file. I have tried numerous times to no avail.....

Anyone have any helpful solution? Is there a "manual" method (although having close to 7,000 Members I'd prefer automated wink ).

Thanks in advance.

Where are your member files in relation to the root. Someone here posted a few weeks back with a similar problem.

Well, its possible that the system isn't letting php access files below the site root; you could try moving your member data to the cgi-bin (or public_html) and running the setup again to see if that is the case. You will have to reconfigure your install (of classic, in your vars_config.cgi) to account for the path change.

Well, FWIW 'Classic' is not working anyway (script errors)..

That said what's the easiest way to move my Forums and Member files? I can recreate most everything else.

Where are the Member files in Threads? I understand that there are differences between Classic and Threads but I am not too up on the fine points.

In other words - if I relocate my Member folder and am NOT running Classic - will anything foul-up in Threads??

Hard to say if classic will not run.
But usually for problems such as the directory is above the root and not accessible just moving the directory below the root works.
As far as threads goes the import script will import the member data into the mysql tables.

I'll try and move to /Members and see how that goes.

As my Classic board is defunct (cannot access the CP) am I OK just doing this? Will it cause more issues later?

Is it possible that the 'Members' directory is not found because the permissions are not right?

Read gizmo's post a couple above this.If you can't open the control panel you may need to edit the config file to change the path to the member files.

Just for %^& and giggles I did not fill out the import form (left all fields blank) and it still came up with "Checking... You entered the wrong path to the members directory".....

OK moved the Members to the /Members area... still no joy. Maybe I need to refresh my browser/clear cache?

This is beyond frustrating..............

Well, so long as the vars_config.cgi file from classic reports the correct directories to where everything exists the threads importer should be capable of upgrading it I think.

Threads stores all information in a MySQL database; whereas classic stored everything in flat files.

Was your UBB.classic version the very latest version, 6.7.3, or was it something earlier? Just worked with someone who had forgot to upgrade first, and were trying to import from 6.1.

If you're sure you're running 6.7.3, then more than likely it's something that's already been stated in this thread. On your last post you said you moved the Members to the /Members area. Not sure if that's the right spot. You want to move it to the same directory that your other ubb.classic files are it, so it should be somewhere in your cgi-bin, and then you'd need to set that path properly on the importer form.

Well, within 6.7; I did my initial upgrade from 6.7.1.

DING!

I am an idiot apparently..... I did NOT include the WHOLE path for the import.

The utility is running now (has been for ~90 minutes) and seems to be working well....

I just looked at the Database on my server (via FTP) and I do see some rather huge files there but am not 100% sure what I am looking at/for.... (e.g. POSTS.MYD; POSTS.MYI, etc.).

hehe, do you have a script like phpmyadmin installed? It will allow you at a glance to see if data has filled the tables and run a repair on it if needed.

maybe, if it's installed there should be a index.php file in the directory you can access via your browser.

?

You upload them in the directories they came in... to a place only you know so people won't be snooping in your databases (play it safe and once you are through remove the config file so people can't find your install and do something nefarious.

I've seen this happen before on some classic imports where it doesn't assign the forums to a valid category so they don't show up. I see you have a support ticket open already, so if you can reply there with the requested info we should be able to get that fixed up.
