Hello Josh,

First, I'd like to commend you. As a first time visitor from another community, it was nice to get some attention and feedback right away. Kudos.

My status quo is this:

I am using the Install Guide for Unix Servers provided by infopop.

I successfully completed everything up through Page 5, Number 7, Step 2.

At my Host, the mysql server has been activated, named and the user info set. Time has passed and thats all up and running. My Host also tells me they had no problems with anything when he tested it today.

I passed step one of the ' Run "install.php" with flying colors...no problems.

Step 2 where it asks for:

1. Database server:
2. Database user:
3. Database password:
4. Tablename prefix:

I put:

1. Left it localhost because the db server and site are the same.

2. I put the name of the db that I assigend it when I actived the db at my Host (www.dreamhost.com)
3. User name

4.Password...

and I've tried lost of different entries using the advice of a fair amount of people that thought they could help, but I keep getting:

Sounds like you have followed all the instructions.

All signs point to problem with the hostname.

I took a quick look at the extensive support section of your host, since you provided a link.

It seems lots of people there have trouble connecting until they get the hostname thing worked out.

Per this link at your host, it seems that you need to define the host name in your control panel. For example: mysql.yourdomain.com, then you'll need to enter that instead of localhost (whatever you set up). You've probably also seen this and this.

Sounds like from your descritption that you've done that.... and waited for the dns to take effect etc.

Have you tried using whatever you setup as the host name when you setup threads? Often it is localhost, but it looks like your host requires you to define a hostname (subdomain) of your domain name as the MySQL server.

But otherwise... it looks like you are doing everything right at the threads end of things.... it's just not being allowed to connect.
