Hi,

our forum software has so far been running as version 7.5.3 and I have now directly upgraded to version 7.5.4.1.

But I did not upload any additional files, only the /install directory and the file /libs/ubbthreads.inc.php. After having done that I kicked off the upgrade process. during that I was not asked to upload modified files, the updated did run all smooth. After the upgrade process the board is reporting version 7.5.4.1. but on the server there are still the "old" version files.

In the file /install/UPGRADE_CHANGES.txt. is noted a change at various files in version 7.5.4 - I just want to check with you if this is as it should be ... wink

Mtier

No that was not the correct procedure.
You should have followed the upgrade instructions.
You may be reporting the new version from the softwre but you don't have any of the bug fixes.

Here is what is from the documentation:
Upload all files and directories from the unzipped UBB.threads directory to the UBB.threads installation directory, except for the includes, styles, and cache_builders/custom directories. You will want to upload all of the .php files within the cache_builders directory, just make sure not to upload the custom directory or files within it.
Then you would run the upgrade.php file.
At this point since there were not any alter tables. You probably may get away with just uploading the files.
It may seem okay now but the next upgrade may be a issue since the version number is in just about every file.

I'd like to note that where that is a valid upgrade procedure (as others have noted over the v7 coarse) it isn't a route I'd ever go (even as someone who generally heavily modifies their coding version after version) when upgrading any of my forum installs...

That was about as clear as mud to me.
Are you saying cheat on the install?
Or did you take a couple extra today. smirk

Maybe you are right, but why there (in the upgrade process) is a check files/version tab? Just for fun? crazy

If i follow your instruction, this tab is useless tongue

Could be because it was a minor upgrade. And the script skipped over them I am not quite sure.(BUG?)
Rick would need to respond to that.
But it should have barked back at you that files were not up to date.
It has done it to me before that I forgot to upload a folder or file.

I was saying that it is a noted install option based on what others have had success with, but i'd never personally use that route to upgrade...

Well, the method he chose was to upload the /libs/ubbthreads.inc.php and the install directory; it's SUPPOSED to tell you what files are required to update from the version you're at vs the version you're upgrading to...

Personally, it's not a route that I like and you can end up with problems.

The route I like is this.

Agreed.
I understand some people cheat when the tables are not modified which as far as I can tell is the case here.
But if the changed files were not uploaded then it did noting except for upgrading ubbthreads.inc.php.
So something is amiss in the check files routine in the upgrade script.

Unless we both don't know a secret trick.

Rick where are you?

Okay I guess Rick has stayed out of this topic .
But if it were me I would at least upload the files in the change.txt file I noted in the previous post.
Other wise nothing has been upgraded.

Sorry, thought I had put my 2 cents in here, but looks like I didn't. Ruben is correct, you'll at least want to take that step and I'll need to see why the upgrader didn't complain about the wrong version on the files that had changed.

Thanks Rick, I was beginning to wonder what was going on.
For a moment I thought I was completely off base.
