I noticed after visiting a particular forum and posts within it, then coming out of the forum felt thinking but I haven't traversed all the red-flaged posts yet it's showing as no more outstanding. So when I go into that forum a second time, I find outstanding red-post counts, yet one level up they was no show.......

I believe how the current "post tracking" works is that if you enter a forum, its marked as read; until a new post in that forum occours (even if you don't read everything in that forum)

ok so even when I clicked right hand side link for a thread with new posts, then I clicked 'Forums' link from:
UBB.threads Community » Forums » UBB.threads 7 Discussion » ....
There were no outstanding posts or threads at top most level, yet when I drilled down one level, I could see outstanding red counts on a different thread.
And how comes I have done this exercise before and when I come back to top most level I can see outstanding threads usually on the left hand side and other times like this, I can't. So there seems to be some sort of irregularity I think if I've not got this all wrong......

It tracks on a per session basis. So while your session is active once you visit a forum, the main page will show all topics in the forum as read, even though you might not have read them all. It will show any new ones since your last visit to that forum.
If your session expires (you're gone for a certain amount of time), then it will show all unread again.
We have a few ideas on how to improve this for version 8, since it always causes a bit of confusion.
