When I type a long post- say longer than the actual main post and it starts to scroll down- it constantly flips up and down with every letter typed...

What version are you currently running? I've heard of some reports of this with IE8 before we put in the compatibility mode header in our latest version. Basically, you can try adding this into the header-insert in the control panel if it's an IE8 issue and you're running anything prior to 7.5.3.
