I just received this query from a user:

Quote
Many forums have a "New Posts" link or button that results in a display of the new posts since the last time you visited the site. That way you only see the new posts and can quickly go through them. The "Active Topics" feature is better than nothing, but I often end up reading topics that aren't "New" and don't know that until I've already displayed it. It looks like UBB.threads doesn't have this feature.
I don't use the Active Posts drop-down myself much at all, and I like the numeric indicators on the forum lists and the topics flagged within each forum. But I think this guy has a valid point, especially for sites with a large number of forums.

I like the way Active Posts are displayed, but it would be nice to add the option to only show Active Posts since last visit. Seems like it wouldn't take much more than a where clause change in the sql search.

It shouldn't take much, but could be a big increase on the server load or page loads for each user to check that on every refresh.

I don't understand... I thought the software would check on new posts ONLY if the user went to the Active Topics page, and then clicked a new "New Posts" option.

Well, the Active Topics does have a yellow arrow that signifies "jump to new posts", if this isn't present it's pretty obvious you've already read all topics for that thread...

Oh, now I see the yellow arrow. It would work for me. (Thank you, Gizmo)

But for a more casual user, it might be nice to have a specific choice on the Active Topics pull-down.

I never noticed the yellow arrow myself till I read this post.
But it would be better if at least the indicator was consistent with the rest of the board to indicate new posts.

Naz, the yellow arrow is on the Active Topics page, not the topiclist page

Seems to me the question was answered pretty well.
