I closed down the Board and successfully backed up the Forum and the database My web hosting company had all the Instructions step by step on how to backup a database on their wiki I am in the middle of upgrading and do not understand the Instructions Upload all files and directories from the unzipped UBB™ directory to the UBB™ installation directory, except for the includes, styles, and cache_builders/custom directories. You will want to upload all of the .php files within the cache_builders directory, just make sure not to upload the custom directory or files within it. So I upload all the files from the unzipped install directory to an install directory on the server? So I must 'create' an install directory on the server - ? correct?

The install directory is the UBB directory; it wants you to take all of the files from the zip you downloaded here (minus the directories "includes", "styles", "cache_builders/custom") and put them in your UBB directory and then run the install/upgrade.php file

Yes, you'll know you're in the right directory on the server, as you'll see a file called ubbthreads.php and a bunch of directories like admin, cache, images, etc.

Connect to your server using your FTP client. Navigate the client to your current UBB™ installation directory.

You will want to upload all of the .php files within the cache_builders directory, just make sure not to upload the custom directory or files within it. I feel like I am not understanding this Upload all files and directories from the unzipped UBB™ directory = C:\ubb\7-5-5\ubbthreads-7-5-5\ubbthreads-7-5-5\install The UBB™ installation directory = demongov.com/ubbthreads Correct ?

and answer the questions

since you are UPLOADING to your server.. you copy from your harddrive to your server.. so example: c:\temp\ubbthreads\install directory goes to your site /ubbthreads/install directory 1 for 1

I might have to wait like 10 minutes for it to show up Ok, while I'm waiting for the install directory to show up on my FireFTP I am re-reading the Upgrade Instructions and I don't understand it 100% Connect to your server using your FTP client. Upload all files from: C:\ubb\7-5-5\ubbthreads-7-5-5\ubbthreads-7-5-5\install To: demongov.com/install The includes and cache_builders/custom directories Is not inside my: C:\ubb\7-5-5\ubbthreads-7-5-5\ubbthreads-7-5-5\install So I have no idea what you're talking about I don't understand when and if you are saying from: C:\ubb\7-5-5\ubbthreads-7-5-5\ubbthreads-7-5-5\install or from: C:\ubb\7-5-5\ubbthreads-7-5-5\ubbthreads-7-5-5\ ? --- I'm going to take a break and buy some chocolate and get some fresh air I can't do anything until that directory shows up and until you guys explain this to me, because I have no idea what these Upgrade instructions are talking about. When is it saying from my: C:\ubb\7-5-5\ubbthreads-7-5-5\ubbthreads-7-5-5\install And when is it saying from: C:\ubb\7-5-5\ubbthreads-7-5-5\ubbthreads-7-5-5\ If at all ?

Except for the directories "includes", "styles", "cache_builders/custom" ?

Can I still login as Admin with the Board closed?
The install directory I created with net2ftp is still not showing up in my FireFTP
I'm thinking if I logout and clear the cache that maybe it will show up
Even if it was showing up right now, I still do not fully comprehend the Upgrade Instructions 100% on which files and directories I'm supposed to upload
I Closed the Board at 2:00pm EST and the backup of the Forum and database took 30 minutes
I followed the Instructions on the SQL Backup from my web hosting companies extensive wiki page
I know nothing about SQL and never backed it up before but the Instructions from my web hosting company were very good
I started reading the UBB Instructions for the Upgrade at 2:20pm EST
And I still do not fully understand exactly which files and directories I'm supposed to upload
If I was a normal person, I would just quit right now and forget about this Upgrade
But I am going to continue out of spite
I am going to Break the UBB Guinness Book of World Records for the longest time it took to perform a UBB.threads upgrade
It is now 2 hours since I started reading the UBB Upgrade Instructions and I still do not fully understand the Instructions

if the directory hasn't shown up yet, then something's going on. Directories created on the server should show up automatically.
I'm not sure how Fireftp works, but I use filezilla and it's basically drag and drop. You'll see files on your hard drive on the left, and the server on the right, and you just drag everything, except for includes, styles, cache_builders/custom from the left to the right and it does the rest.

All the files and directories from
C:\ubb\7-5-5\ubbthreads-7-5-5\ubbthreads-7-5-5 To where? All to the install directory ? Or each overwriting it's own corresponding directory? Example: C:\ubb\7-5-5\ubbthreads-7-5-5\ubbthreads-7-5-5\libs Upload to: demongov.com/ubbthreads/libs ? Or: C:\ubb\7-5-5\ubbthreads-7-5-5\ubbthreads-7-5-5\libs To: demongov.com/ubbthreads/install ?

Done uploading
1. I didn't have to create the install directory with net2ftp and wait for it to show up on FireFTP
I could had just uploaded the entire directory
duh
2. I wasted time before checking all the chmod permissions
I have to do that now 'after' the upload

You don't have to upload the sessions directory, but it won't hurt if you do. Only temporary files inside.

After everything is uploaded, you'll bring up the install/upgrade.php file in your browser and follow the steps.

This upgrade has been completed. Please remove the entire install directory

Ok, last question:
Should I change the chmod permissions for more security now ?
