My forum broke the 2,000,000 posts mark overnight. All quality posts, I might add.

I've been on Bigboards for a few years, but they don't seem to update the info... ever... The last time I submitted updates, they basically said they wouldn't update it for a year or two unless I PAID for a membership/subscription thing. Not interested. I did add their script somewhere. I just took a look at bigboards, and they have me at 1,209,871 posts and 9,093 members. I have well over 18,000 members. I'd say that site is pretty worthless.

That stinks. First I had heard of that scenario.

I learned not to put credence into bigboards years ago. People still look at that site?

The thing is, the numbers don't seem related to any form of reality. I checked it against a number of larger sites that we host or that I have admin access to, and could not even come near verifying the big board numbers against the actual site or database figures.

Well I don't even qualify to submit. Requirements are: Board must have at least 500000 posts. That is not 5000 or 50000, it is 500,000. If your forum does not fit this criteria, it is useless to submit it, it will not be included.

I don't bother since it'd be years till I qualify. We're just coming up to 50,000 so I can't see us qualifying fo a loooong time. Anyhow, we don't advertise* or publicise in any way - so we wouldn't actually want to be listed * other than to sponsors

I don't know if I'd even qualify for the slowest/smallest board! Facebook has pretty much killed it off.

There is nothing wrong with a small forum. In all honesty, I think the site was more fun when it was smaller. It was a more cohesive group.
I do enjoy the increased revenue, though. The site has become a nice second income for me. I need to boost my Google page rank and optimize my Amazon affiliate program. Right now, it is my only income, because I am among the long-term unemployed. Manufacturing and Massachusetts are not a good mix.

Lol we're practically dead, trying to find ways to get more popularity back, but honestly it's seeming hopeless, though I keep trying

facebook is now the dominant force in social networking. i feel that forum sites that were previously reliant on social aspects are now threatened with extinction unless they are able to overcome or accommodate this force. this is why i think that facebook integration with the new version 8 is so critical.

I think Facebook has helped the site. There is a Facebook page set up, and there are 743 members there. The forum saw a nice growth spurt concurrent with the FB page. I'm probably averaging 40-50 new members a week on a forum that is based on a product that is on life support. There is a technical area, and a social area, and interest in the social area has not diminished. I have never paid a dime to promote the site, other than buying stickers. The stickers make a nice profit, too. The ulitmate was having a site sticker show up on a Dickies commercial on TV. We still don't know how it got there. Notice the "CVN" oval in the big "S" on the sign.

I'm with Gizmo, it's almost impossible to compete with Facebook, although I keep trying. I have a companion Facebook page setup, but haven't seen any benefit at this point. I keep hoping that with all this controversy of Facebook exposing peoples personal information all time will help drive people back to the message forums that don't do this.

Well, really, FB has privacy settings for every little detail, so if someone's personal data is "leaking" on their page, they've just neglected to set what they want public ... But yeah, I'm with Greg, I have a FB fan page for most of my major sites and see little (if any) impact...
