I followed all the instructions.

Installed 6.1.1 in a fresh directory.
Installed up to the createtable.php step.
Created an admin different than my classic board.

UBB.threadsâ„¢ import from UBB.classicâ„¢ (v 3.3.beta2)

/usr/local/psa/home/vhosts/chevytalk.org/cgi-bin/ubbcgi
/usr/local/psa/home/vhosts/chevytalk.org/httpdocs/forums
/usr/local/psa/home/vhosts/chevytalk.org/cgi-bin/Members
/usr/local/psa/home/vhosts/chevytalk.org/cgi-bin/ubbcgi

Then when I run ubbimport.php I get:

"SQL ERROR: Unable to do_query: CREATE TABLE w3t_memtemp( memname text, pubname text, number text )
Table 'w3t_memtemp' already existsDone! Click here to begin importing members."

Then:
Warning: open_basedir restriction in effect. File is in wrong directory in /usr/local/psa/home/vhosts/chevytalk.org/httpdocs/threads/ubbimport.php on line 1128

Warning: Supplied argument is not a valid Directory resource in /usr/local/psa/home/vhosts/chevytalk.org/httpdocs/threads/ubbimport.php on line 1130

Warning: Supplied argument is not a valid Directory resource in /usr/local/psa/home/vhosts/chevytalk.org/httpdocs/threads/ubbimport.php on line 1135
Done! Click here to import categories.

I know you were testing...

Did you drop the tables on your test database. The errors seem to indicate that the database tables are already there.

If you didn't, you would need to drop the tables. You could use phpMyAdmin for this, or run an SQL Query like this:

DROP TABLE w3t_Users

You would need to do that for AddressBook, Banned, Boards, Category, Favorites, Graemlins, Groups, Last, Messages, ModNotify, Moderators, Online, PollData, Polls, Posts, Ratings, and Subscribe.

There may be a way to do them all at once... but I don't know how. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="images/icons/tongue.gif" />

</font><hr /></blockquote><font size="" face="">I ran the createtables.php file doesn't that create the tables? I followed the instructions which didn't mention dropping any tables.

The DB is brand new not from my other test site. After it was created I ran the install.php all worked great, ran createtable.php (no problems) created an new admin with no problem and then went to run the ubbimport.php file and got all the errors.

Without the import I am dead in the water.

I'm not sure but I think the database needs to be empty from the start before importing? That is, there would be no need to create your admin account. I may be wrong on this though as I have never used the import script.

Hmm...

Don't know anything about the importer.

Looks like you are trying to create the tables twice and they are already there.

Dave or Brett will know more about this.

Maybe the importer works better when importing from Classic 6.x? I did a trial upgrade from Classic 6.2.1 and encountered no problems whatsoever.

I believe Conrad is correct in that the importer was ment to import from a more current version of .classic

This is most likely why your getting errors. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="images/icons/frown.gif" />

I was told by one of the developers here that the importer would work on 5.x boards it would just have less to import and infact there is a selection for it on the importer form.

"This is a 5.x UBB.classic".

PLEASE HELP !

Your first post in this thread says your importing to UBB.threadsâ„¢ from UBB.classicâ„¢ (v 3.3.beta2)

Is this the .classic version your importing?

David Dreezer would be the one that knows this better. Wish I was of more help. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="images/icons/frown.gif" />

If memory serves when I did mine, I installed threads completely. Then ran the importer.

Warning: open_basedir restriction in effect. File is in wrong directory in /usr/local/psa/home/vhosts/chevytalk.org/httpdocs/threads/ubbimport.php on line 1128

open_basedir is a PHP security setting that allows scripts to do file I/O only in certain directories. To work around this, copy your UBB.classic directories (cgi-bin, noncgi, members, variables) to temporary subdirectories under the UBB.threads directory. When the importer asks for the locations of your UBB.classic directories, give it those temporary directories.

I did as well. All the way up to creating catagories or forums.

Thats what the instructions said to do. What version did you import from?

I'll have to see if I can make the room to copy all of this.
You wouldn't happen to know what the PHP security setting is would you?

open_basedir

The php.ini file that comes with the PHP standard distribution has a comment explaining it.

OK..

I got rid of all those messages and now the script runs but after I fill in all the variables and select enter.

I get:
"Done! Click here to begin importing members."

My ubbimport.cnf.php now contains:

<?php

$membersdir = " /usr/local/psa/home/vhosts/chevytalk.org/httpdocs/threads/ubbcgi/xMembersx";
$cgi = " /usr/local/psa/home/vhosts/chevytalk.org/httpdocs/threads/ubbcgi";
$noncgi = " /usr/local/psa/home/vhosts/chevytalk.org/httpdocs/threads/forums";
$variables = " /usr/local/psa/home/vhosts/chevytalk.org/httpdocs/threads/ubbcgi";
$ubb5 = "1";
$noncgiurl = "http://www.chevytalk.org/forums";

?>

Then I click on that and:
"Done! Click here to begin importing members."

and after 10 seconds I get:
Done! Click here to import categories.
(remember I have 12000 members and having it finish this fast was suspicious)

The categories import takes 3 seconds. ( I have about 20 categories)

I then get:
Done! Click here to begin importing the forums.

I then get:
Warning: Unable to access /usr/local/psa/home/vhosts/chevytalk.org/httpdocs/threads/ubbcgi/forums.cgi in /usr/local/psa/home/vhosts/chevytalk.org/httpdocs/threads/ubbimport.php on line 494

Warning: file(" /usr/local/psa/home/vhosts/chevytalk.org/httpdocs/threads/ubbcgi/forums.cgi") - No such file or directory in /usr/local/psa/home/vhosts/chevytalk.org/httpdocs/threads/ubbimport.php on line 494
Done! Click here to begin importing posts.

The forums.cgi file does in fact exist in this exact location with read rights for all.

Then I click on the:
Done! Click here to begin importing posts.

I get:
Warning: Unable to access /usr/local/psa/home/vhosts/chevytalk.org/httpdocs/threads/ubbcgi/forums.cgi in /usr/local/psa/home/vhosts/chevytalk.org/httpdocs/threads/ubbimport.php on line 627

Warning: file(" /usr/local/psa/home/vhosts/chevytalk.org/httpdocs/threads/ubbcgi/forums.cgi") - No such file or directory in /usr/local/psa/home/vhosts/chevytalk.org/httpdocs/threads/ubbimport.php on line 627
Done! Click here to import the moderators.

I click on:
Done! Click here to import the moderators.

and get:
Done! Click here to finish the import.

I click on that and get:
Import complete! Click here to log in to your UBB.threadsâ„¢.

Use the public display name/password from your UBB.classicâ„¢ installation to login. If your public display name had spaces, replace the spaces with underscores. For example, the login name "Just Me" would become "Just_Me".

Note: A temporary table was used during the import. If there is an SQL error message below, the table could not be dropped. You will need to manually drop the "w3t_memtemp" table at a later time.

I did not receive any SQL error messages.

At this point the config file contains:
<?php

$installcomplete = "yes";

?>

So I click on:
Click here to log in to your UBB.threadsâ„¢.

POOF absolutely empty forums, no users, nada, zilch, nothing.

The problem was fixed by modifying the ULTBB.Setup file with the new absolute paths of the directories I moved over for the import.

Recall that as a result of the PHP error:
Warning: open_basedir restriction in effect. File is in wrong directory....

.... I moved the 4 directories that I needed to import from to a place under my ../threads directory at the suggestion of DaveL.
In doing so I copied all the UBB config files along as well.

If you follow the import directions one might get the impression that the correct settings in the UBBimport.php file will take care of this relocation. Well it seems that the import program also interrogates the ULTBB.Setup file from the UBB non-cgi directory for the path locations in addition to the UBBimport.php program.

Once I changed the locations to match the new locations the import worked fine.
I imported 12000 members and 255,000 messages in about 45 minutes.

Luca lives again!

That's strange. I couldn't find any place in the import script that reads that file. Well, as long as it worked. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

Usually you need to upload a clean .cnf file and start again. Otherwise it assumes it's finished.

Yeah, that's why it was kicking my butt.

Brett actaully gave me the hint.

I would have never guessed.

So if you hear of folks having issues when they "move" the stuff to a other server, that's what they need to do.

Seems that needs to be included in the documentation someplace.
