I know I have seen this, either as an optional add on.. or with other forum software I use.
Would really like to subscribe to some emails and have them post in their own forum, and that forum could only recieve the initial post via that specific software.
I have members going all over the world and would really like them to be able to email happenings where they are. Right now we have some people in Haiti, but next week he could be in Mongolia or the Antartic.
Plus we have people who do interesting emails every week etc etc
any chance this could happen?
Please?

yah, this is possible.. it is a ubbdev kinda dealio (or if Rick puts it in future v8+ versions) not too hard to do either.. the only thing is authentication, but you can have a 'shared secret' as part of the subject or whatever.. rotate that secret or token periodically.. also, the same concept can be used to upload attachments (jpg, gif, png [or subset]) as pictures that autopost to a gallery forum.. same idea

Well, I hardly call it a "problem" just simply a feature that hasn't been added yet since there is so much to it...
If a solution where thought up, ideally it'd have to support POP3, IMAP, and EMail Piping (as lots of users don't host email on the same server or just don't have access to the nitty gritty to be able to support email piping)...
so it's all in all a LOT of work to be done... Especially for free

ok, i understand.... I have tried to make it myself but so far I could not make postings. the only possibility I see is to write directly into the database. while there are some problems then. nice would be if we could use the posting from the webinterface from "outside". on my server i can filter incoming mail by scripts.
regards, Daniel

yep, that is possible and i've done it for a couple of customers (pop3 only, which isn't a hard restriction)
and yes, it requires writing to the DB also adding a security mechanism to prevent spammers from going crazy..

I's love to be able to reply to PMs via email, getting way to used to that on Facebook, lol, not that I don't want to log in here, but would make responding on my phone much easier

This has been getting enough requests lately, that we'll definitely be doing some work on this after v8 is done.

As an admin, I get a few emails per week of users replying to the PM notifier emails from their devices, thinking the sender is getting their response. I usually email them back, explaining that they need to reply directly to the PM so the sender gets their response.

Getting more and more requests from users who'd like to be able to reply to PMs via email. More and more people are using phones and mobile devices to access the Net and this feature would be very helpful.
Hope this ability is still on the "wish-list."

Heres hoping it's more powerful than email piping (pop3/imap ideal)... Since all of our mail goes through Google Apps and never touches our server lol...

Just saw this post. This would sure be a nice feature to have, so I'm hoping Rick can get it in sometime after v8 is out.
