I'm migrating my UBB.Threads 7.5.3 installation from a single Windows server to two Ubuntu boxes -- the LAMP and MySQL virtual appliances obtainable from turnkeylinux.org. After getting everything copied over and reconfigured, I can't log in to the board. It does not accept any username/password combination, and when I go to the 'forgot my password' link, it says that it "Can't find a login name of Shane32" (I tried my username, email, and both). It also says that no forums listed, even though one is public. Any ideas? I tried a fresh install of UBB.Threads 7.5.4 with the existing database, with the same result after what seemed to be a successful installation. Any ideas?

Here's what I have done so far:
First, I got the databases running on my MySQL VM, run a repair on all the tables, and added a user for access from the LAMP VM. I also configured the included phpmyadmin module on the LAMP VM to access the MySQL VM, and it works great. I also configured a new user on the LAMP VM, installed ProFTPd, and configured Apache to all work together. So far, so good - now I can ftp in to the server, upload files, and they are accessible via http -- PHP files are working too.

Then I first tried installing UBB.Threads 7.5.4 fresh. I configured it to access the existing MySQL databases. The installation was going fine, and at the last step, I skipped the 'create an administrator' step. It did run through the 'creating tables' step. However, when trying to access the board, I ran into the aforementioned problem.

Finally, I deleted the installation and copied then entire ubbthreads folder from the old server. Then I edited the config.inc.php file to properly access the database, and updated all the local filesystem pathnames. It didn't work at first, so I checked the database logs, and found the password was being rejected. So I fixed the MySQL password, and now I'm back to the same problem with it not letting me log in. No more errors show up in the UBB.Threads sql logfile. I have not updated any other files - I'm not sure if it is necessary or not.

Please note that I'm reasonably sure that the permissions are set properly, according to the installation documentation for UBB.Threads 7.x. For any of the 777 directories that originally are empty, I set the contents to 666 (e.g. cache). Let me know if there's any other permissions issues to check. By the way, I have not tried simply setting ALL the files and folders to full 777 access.

Could the fresh installation UBB.Threads have modified any of the database structures in such a way that I need to restore my original tables again? I can't think of anything else to try.

This is my first week with Linux, so if there's anything obvious I'm missing, please let me know.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Shane

Never mind; I got it solved. The installation created duplicate tables -- with uppercase names! Whoops didn't see that coming! If there's anything that bugs me about C++ and Linux, it's case sensitivity. Setting the lower_case_table_names MySQL variable to 1 (the default for Windows installations) eliminated the problem. Also, 3 of the tables didn't copy either because they were InnoDB tables instead of MyISAM tables. I just recreated them and re-added the 5 records. I think I'm all set. Thanks!

Shane

The Caps in table names is important to check.
Especially when going from windows to linux.
