Their instructions are:

7. Run “install.php” In your web browser, access the file install.php (URL will look something like http://www.yourdomain.com/yourdirectory/ubbthreads/install.php)

This will run a step-by-step test to complete your installation. Simply follow the instructions as they appear in each screen. Be prepared to fill in your database name, user name, and password during this routine. NOTE: To fill in the fields during the install.php test, use absolute URLs, not relative URLs.

NOTE: The install.php test will assist you with setting paths and URLs, but it is still a good idea to verify that they are correct. See the “Additional Tips” documentation for more assistance with paths and URLs.

This is where i'm at and stuck at:
Step 2
This next step consists of gathering the database information. You will need to know the server the mysql engine is running on, the database name, the username, and the password if necessary. (GIVE ME AN EXAMPLE AT LEAST! jUST A CLUE WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT!)
Database server ?
Database name ?
Database user ?
Database password
Tablename prefix (no spaces)

No matter what I put in here, it's wrong. Can they at least give an example? I have never used PHP before and I know I have it. My server's control panel says it's here:
/usr/bin/php4
Where do I put that? What do I put in the rest of it? If I at least had an example, i'd have no problem!
Thanks! Been working on this one little step 2 for the past 3 hours so i'm a little frustrated at the directions they (don't) provide!

This doesn't really have anything to do with PHP..... and it's tough to give an example.

Your webhost must create a database on your server for you to use. This database will have a name (whatever they or you decide to name it) and a database username and password (again whatever you or they decide on). But it's stuff you must obtain from your web host.

The tablename prefix can be left blank - you really only need this if you are running more than one forum in the same database. The default is 'w3t_'.

Often the database server will be 'localhost' but many hosts will also use something like 'mysql.yourwebhost.com'

So ask your host what your database server, database name, database user and database password are if they did not supply this info to you when you created your webhosting account. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

Hope that helps.

Oh! Fixed it! Don't know why I was thinking about php - I swear it said php somewhere in the instructions, which is what confused me!
Thanks!

Hmm, okay, so it's not really fixed - nothing seemed to work! Now what? It gave me an error when I got to creating tables about language and then said creation of tables was complete, then that was that - end of story. Now nothing works.

What was the error?

Is it connecting to the database - does your host have any kind of DB tool in their control panel (like phpMyAdmin) where you can look and see if the tables are created?

When I check the link - it appears your path is wrong - in one place in the error message it says:

/home/bizfx/public_html/ubbthreads

and in the other place it says
/bizfx/public_html/ubbthreads

for your path to UBBThreads. Verify what your correct path is with your host and make sure it's correct in main.inc.php and config.inc.php file.

I'm thinking you might have left the /home/ off somewhere, thus the inconsistancy. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

Hope that helps.

How can I redo the install then? It wouldn't let me.
These are the tables listed:

Then you've got all the tables then..... your database settings must be OK.

A couple things to check.....

Check the path settings as I explained above in the main.inc.php and config.inc.php files. (You can open and edit in any text editor).

I think there's some inconsistancies there with the /home begining part of your path. I suspect it might be missing from some of the settings.

If after you correct that - you still see the "failed opening" for the templates - check the permissions on the templates directory and all the files inside. Try 777 (so everyone can read and write). They might not be readable.

I'd verify that all permissions are correct:
http://www.infopop.com/support/ubbthreads/UBBThreads_Unix_install.html#_Toc18298845

There are instructions for changing permissions using various FTP programs and for windows/unix servers here:
http://www.infopop.com/support/ubbthreads/install.html

Hope that helps. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

Yeah, just checked one more thing - here is one of your templates:

http://bizfx.com/ubbthreads/templates/default/ubbthreads.tmpl

"Permission Denied". Yup - verify all the permissions are correct per the link I posted above. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />
