I created a new member account for my self on my forum. I did get the greeting from 'me' on this new account, and I went to pm back, well it never arrived in my main account.
Others have told me this as well.
What happened?
Thanks

We never have been able to reply to a board automated PM message. There have been discussions on this item. If not allowed then bark back with a error message. Or allow it to happen. I think there is a long winded topic that Basil started a while back. clicky

I don't think the welcome message should be a PT, instead just have it like "if user has clicked "dismiss" it dissapears" "feature", basically just have it as a div in the code that's hidden if dismissed...

Ok, think of the welcome PM, it IS a pm, just with one participant...
I'm suggesting instead of a PM, having a box that says the welcome stuff and they have to click a button to make it go away instead...

IMO, Someday there should be a direct communication vehicle associated with the welcome message at the very least with something on the board. Why, Because you have a new member that is not familiar with how the board works and may have some login issues and does not know as yet how to communicate with the board. Call it hand holding with a noob. Even if it simply to redirect them to the contact us link method instead of allowing them to reply to a message that goes nowhere.

Yep. What I don't know for sure is if SD has the time now or if it is even on the agenda for say 7.7.x. But it is a bone of contention for some. for example what do you do with all the other auto generated pm topics.

I believe he mentioned that if you're the only one in a PT in either this coming release or one after, you'll be unable to message yourself... Which kinda sucks for folks like me who PT myself notes on the site I'm working on as to remember at a later date what i've done lol...

i only take the reply capability out if you want to create a NEW PT and give yourself a note, then it is fine this prevents the unwanted replies to a black hole

Surely there must be a simple fix for this. Imagine this, I spend $$$'s promoting my forum, when I meet people I invite them to join, they join . They respond to the PM that comes from me, as it appears they are doing , no error messages and to them, I just blow them off my not responding..
Just sayin'

A temporary addition, not really a fix would be to edit the welcome pm to add a link to a pm including you.

As it stand the default message says
Welcome to our forums! Please take a moment to review and update your profile and preferences to take full advantage of our features. You can do this by clicking on "Edit Profile" and "Edit Preferences" in the My Stuff dropdown.
Please do not reply to this message as this is just an automated welcome message to thank you for joining our community.

Just sayin' I agree 100 percent. No make it 1000 percent. But it has been that way since dirt. The quick fix would be to edit the language file and add something like a mailto link. Or to turn off welcome messages and manually email/pm something to a new member. But that means monitoring the registrations. Or try the mod posted at the topic link I provided in a prior reply. But that was for a version several releases back.
