Just wanted to get some opinions from the experts on what, I, as a user board admin should be allowed to have.
I would like to have FTP access to the board, which I do not have. This would be helpful if I or someone wanted to do some maintenance work which required FTP.
I am thinking that PHPMyAdmin is in the CP, but I have no idea where it is or how to access it.
The owner or host of the board should likely know these things. Is this something that either of those would likely tell me I don't need or should I, as the fulltime board admin, be allowed to have.
Even if the board host chooses not to do this, is it something I shouldn't even ask for?

Are you talking about this UBB System, or your own setup using UBB.Threads?
For your own site, it's up to you to install phpMyAdmin, which is very easy to do if you have root access in the shell.

FTP/SSH access would be useful for hiring out for upgrades and modifications (or doing them yourself).
Access to PHPMyAdmin and the MySQL DB username/password would also be useful for editing the MySQL database (the user/password can be taken out of the ubb config file however).
Access to the Control Panel for hosting would also be useful as it'll allow you to access server logs (as would SSH access noted above).
Some webhosts do not allow access via SSH, which can be semi understandable in a shared hosting environment; but definite access to FTP and PHPMyAdmin (if installed on the server) would be bare minimums for maintaining a site.

Thanks Andyistic2 and Gizmo.
Well neither really if I am understanding your question. I own an Electronic Medical Record from a company. They have a UBB for its users. I have been the admin on the board for eight years. Given that, I still don't know as much as I should.
The board is hosted by the company, and the special admin likely knows if phpMyAdmin is already installed. I also do not have FTP access.
So, my question is in your opinion, do you think I have a right to ask for it. Or is it just something the host of the board should have.
I guess I am asking because I really want these things to improve the board, something the special admin could care less about. If I have a right to ask (I mean if it is something a regular board admin shouldn't have), I want to know. Because I easily can go WAY over his head to the VP of the company.

Well when you get down to it, whoever is contracting upgrades and modifications is the one who'd need access to said things.

Also it would be needed for making backups. Site files/scripts and databases.

Thanks Ruben,
My problem is although I need those tools, the special or super admin is not going to allow me have them.
Do you think that most super admins who host the board would allow the board admin who monitors and runs the board on a daily basis access to those tools?
I am just looking at the best way to talk the super admin in to sharing these. Gizmo, you give the perfect example of SSH as being something that a super admin may not give me.
I ask mainly because if he doesn't give these tools to me, then I will definitely go to the vice president who would very likely ask him to give them to me seeing as how she asks me to do things on the board quite often such as post HTML announcements and improve Spam programs.
Is it super admin or special admin?
Thanks.

I think that you're over complicating things a bit... Quite simply FTP access is a requirement if you're the one being tasked by the owner to upgrade, modify, or backup the UBB forums.
There are no special privileges really required, FTP access would be full access to the web space that the forum is hosted under.
I believe that if the organization has tasked you with the maintenance (upgrades, modifications, etc) of the forum then you need to have access at bare minimum to be able to modify the forum files...

Actually, that was the answer I was looking for. But, you are correct, I do tend to over complicate things, lol.
I appreciate all the help from everyone.

It sounds like you need to install a version on your LOCAL PC/Server and play with it in order to find out what all is available -- and what you're missing. Then it's a 1,000 times easier to ask for something, when you know what it is that you want.
Nothing beats having a test system up and running.

That's a great idea! Only thing how do I get one? Do I just download it. I would think it would need to be hosted, etc.

If you have a windows desktop you can install wamp. http://www.wampserver.com/en/it will run as a server wamp stands for windows apache mysql php. that is what you need to install and run ubb on your desktop. since it is not a public machine/site you are allowed to install your version as a test board.

That's a good idea. Wonder if I should install it on a Virtual Machine.
I got an email back from the host admin. He asked me why I needed the two things I asked for. I told him, and he hasn't replied. It's only been about three hours.
