If a user ticks "remember me on each visit" when logging in on IE, they get prompted to login again whenever they click on a forum.

I tried adding a cookie prefix, clearing cookies in "my stuff" when logged in, cleared cookies through ie settings, set cookie expiry time to 7 days in config.inc.php file, cleared site cache each time I made a change - all with no luck.

Functions properly in Firefox.
I'm on 7.5.3

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Cookies where reworked in 7.5.8 for IE issues; you should consider an upgrade.

I was afraid that'd be the answer.
I'd prefer not since there are a lot of custom mods in the script and we will likely be re-building the site in the near future.

Is there anything else I could (manually) do to target the problem?

Not unless you intend to break the new cookie coding down and try to implement it yourself in your version on your own. The way dates where previously set in cookies "wasn't liked" by IE ("hugely fictitious dates meaning "forever")

I still can't click "remember me" when logging in here.

I have the same problem with IE on my message board and I have the latest (7.5.8) version which was upgraded by UBB. I've had complaints from IE users who say that they are being logged out even if they're simply clicking a new topic to read. The "remember me" button seems to mean nothing. It logs them out over and over again.

Well I don't know what to say anymore.
I will admit IE is not my default browser.
I use firefox . With no issues ever.
I have not had a issue with IE till today with ubb7.5.8.
IE7 now has issues at this site where I can't login at all.

So something had to have changed with IE recently.

Thank You Bill Gates!

Yeah, I hear you, Ruben, I never use IE unless I'm trying to help someone who is having problems. I use Firefox as well. In fact I'll use Safari and Opera before I'll use IE, that's how much I dislike its platform. On the other hand I can't ignore posters on my board who use IE. I'm guessing that it's some kind of cookie issue that happens when IE has one of its ten thousand yearly upgrades. If not, I don't know what to tell them other than clear their cache and make sure their browser is accepting cookies tongue

I appreciate the reply, Ruben. And I finally got my 10 year badge laugh

I don't see why IE has to reinvent the wheel wherever they can, whereas everyone else is trying to give the user "the same experience" cross browser...

I've been too swamped with site development to have the time to research upgrades to IE as of late (go figure, we finally fix the "the cookie's date is too far in the future" issue); I wonder what they broke now...

RE: Zero-Day IE Security flaw found just days after Microsoft EOL'd Windows XP on April 8, 2014.
http://www.theverge.com/2014/4/27/5...o-day-security-flaw-affects-all-versions

About a week or so ago, Microsoft posted a patch to "Windows Update" for IE versions in Windows XP through to Current 8.1U1 to combat against that Zero-Day Security Flaw:
http://www.theverge.com/2014/5/1/5671878/microsoft-internet-explorer-windows-xp-update
An editorial from popular Microsoft blog site, Winbeta.org:
http://www.winbeta.org/news/im-sorr...-shouldnt-have-patched-your-os-editorial

I read from another source, that Microsoft plans to release a second minor update for IE6+ (to the same Windows versions) this week or next regarding the same/additional exploits ( and some Adobe Reader/Flash stuff ??? ), but I'm having difficulties locating a link to that article with my limited time this afternoon.

EDIT:
Just doing a quick scan in my RSS feeds, it may be one of these links:

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

In the default version of IE that was shipped with a fresh install of Windows XP, IE6, I too had the same issues as you described - and those of which Steve mentioned above.

Which version of IE are they having problems with?

The current version of IE for Windows XP is IE8.
If you're running a modern version of Windows (Vista/7/8.x), the current version of IE is IE11.

The latest version of IE for your user's Windows version can be downloaded from:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/download-ie
(it detects which version of windows they're using from their user-agent string)

The Solution? smile

On a domain with an underscore, IE silently drops all cookies for that host and refuses to accept new ones.
The server sends Set-Cookie response correctly, yet the cookie never shows up in IE.
SOURCE: http://www.alexrothenberg.com/2010/09/24/use-dashes-not-underscores-in-your.html

I've also read about this happening with domain names that start with a numeric digit.
Ex: "1world dot com" and "2friends dot com"

Basically, IE has problems accepting cookies from subdomains that don't follow the URI RFC
SOURCE: http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc2396.txt

EDIT: From most of what I've found, its IE7 and older versions. The bug may also appear in more recent versions, but I haven't researched the issue in great detail.

Well the reason I downgraded to IE 7 in vista 32bit,
was due to my version of quickbooks pro will not work with the newer IE versions.
Unless I spend another 200 dollars for quickbooks.
And you can't change the default browser version in quickbooks
So the never ending circle begins.
