Okay, here's a weird one.
Folks have been telling me for months that they can't upload AVATARS. When I go to PROFILE SETTINGS and click to test the directory, it returns: "Directory exists but is not writeable."
But when I look a the directory permissions, they read 777.
Any ideas on what's happening?

Check your group permissions. You may not be allowing a group to upload.
Second. Check the path in internet explorer as i have found in the past Chrome Reports the path is correct and writable and IE said its not.
So check the path in a couple of browsers. You may find its not correct.
Hope that helps.
Im meaning the control panel setting where the paths are set to your upload folder.

What is the PATH that the avatar upload directoy is set to? It needs to be a full path from the server root, some servers give you a path of "/public/forums/uploads/avatar/" which would be your "Virtual path" which would say "hey its here but it can't be written to" as it needs it from the server root.

Spent another hour plus on this. No joy. This is the location that won't allow WRITES:
/var/www/vhosts/vcca.org/httpdocs/forum/admin/chat/avatars Directory exists but is not writeable (WHY NOT?) --Permissions: 777 Full URLhttp://vcca.org/forum/admin/chat/avatarsYes... I have been using Chrome. STEPS TAKEN TO RESOLVE THIS:1) GROUP PERMISSIONS are all set to ALLOW Avatar Uploads 2) IE also returned "Not Writeable" result 3) Netscape also returned "Not Writeable" 4) Full path vs. virtual path - Is okay (I think) 5) For Reference: The Attachment DIrectory "Is Writeable" /var/www/vhosts/vcca.org/httpdocs/attachments/chat TEST IT:http://vcca.org/forum/admin/testdir...hosts/vcca.org/httpdocs/attachments/chat6) YOU CAN TEST THE AVATAR Directory TOO: http://vcca.org/forum/admin/testdir...ca.org/httpdocs/forum/admin/chat/avatarsBoth of them are set to 777. I think that I'll continue to play with all permissions. But I'd sure appreciate any other ideas. Thanks.

This is going to sound completely out of left field; but what are the permissions on the folder above the avatar folder you're trying to use? To troubleshoot, can you make a new folder and test it? Something like: /var/www/vhosts/vcca.org/httpdocs/forum/uploads/avatars The test directory script requires admin access, and I'm afraid troubleshooting would require FTP and admin access, which really is out of the scope of the user to user support that the UBBCentral forums offer.

Another oddball issue that happens is your owner/group has changed. and you don't have access. You can see this when you ftp to the site using say filezilla. If the host has changed the owner/group for your site they may have forgotten to grant access to you.

One other thing to check, could you load up the PHP Info script in the UBB.threads control panel and let us know the version of GD your host is using? It should be something like: GD Version bundled (2.1.0 compatible)
UBB.threads can have issues with GD 2.1, which is quite a common build on most hosts. This issue will be fixed in 7.6.0, but you'll see far better results with running ImageMagick if your host has it available (your images will be far "crisper").

One last item is you don't have avatars enabled for at least the users group. Not even stock ones.
Control Panel » Site Permissions Can specify a remote avatar Can choose a stock avatars Can upload an avatar
